    Best to make a rod from 1/2" wood curtain rod,walnut preferably,and put a knob on it...........two reasons ,one is the replica rod is a tempting target for light fingers,...Second ,its too short,and cant be seen easily before blowing it downrange.

    I have always used a hotplate....first on a wood stove,now electric......secret is to wrap your pot with some insulating material ,like rockwool,then put a shield around it ,mine is a coffee tin......and shut out draughts robbing your heat...Melts...

    I have slugged the bore of my IAB,long time ago,but it does fully engrave the Lee 400gn 54 minie,at .533.,and Im reasonably sure its .533 groove.......it also seems to have a hardchrome bore,anyway it never fouls ,and it has in the past fired...

    I have a IAB 54......not top end for sure,but never had an issue in 40 + years.........anyway ,i couldnt get it to shoot with the lee 54 minie(hollow removed),the only mold available here at the time......so i tried 58 PH minies in it .......massive...

    Old 303 rounds are good for long hangfires.....I always wait ,recock,and often even a dud will fire second time.Had one where I had waited ,taken the gun down to eject,and it went off with the rifle at about a 40 deg angle ,way over the hill thats...

    Loctite nutlock.....the pale blue stuff......its what Rossi use to set the 92 barrels when they dont index..............if you dont fancy that,then a bit of teflon pipe tape might be OK,for a while......Its extremely unlikely oil has loosened you...
