I have been doing small batches of clip on WW in preparation for winter casting. For instance this morning I started with 35 pounds, ended up with 28 pounds worth of ingots and 7 pounds worth of sludge. I'll admit that I start skimming the metal...

Don1357 replied to a thread Mold handles in Cast Boolits
Outpost, that's exactly the one I have on the Ideal mold. What I need is one that will fit the new molds. The throat on the ideal mold (that fits the handles, a 358156 I don't even reload for) is 9/16", the throats on the new molds I just got are...

Would a 2~4 cavity mold handle be able to hold a single cavity mold?

Don1357 started a thread Mold handles in Cast Boolits
I recently picked two new molds for my 45-70, a gas checked 405gr flat nose RCBS one and a round nosed 475 grains Lyman 457406. Imagine my disappointment this weekend when the single cavity handle I have (holding an Ideal 357 mold I don't even cast...

The way to go about it is to invest in a good system to measure alloy hardness. As long as you can reproduce the hardness you'll end up in the same spot. This is actually rather easy with some pure lead to soften and some lino to harden.

Did you get a tracking number for the last shipment? You would have been able to see the progress with it, right to the point the alleged partial destruction happened... Sounds like they screwed up, never filed your order, and now are giving you...

Speed has nothing to do with anything, pressure is everything. If you have an accurate weapon. And if you have an accurate setup to rest said weapon. And if you have worked out the most consistent load based on the powder burn rate/bullet...

Nobody here shots them without a gas check? Well then, is .451 the correct gas check size? That's the closest I saw at midway

I take it the .451 diameter would be the correct one?

I just picked a Lyman 457406 mold off of fleabay. How effective is it shooting it without the gas check? I imagine my shoulder would give up before the alloy does...

Yeah, curved stock. I'm hoping for something that works but that still looks pretty. In addition to my daydreams of murdering moose (I have apple trees and berry bushes, my relationship with moose is complicated but I wouldn't kill more than I...

As the title says, anybody here cares to recommend a recoil pad for the h&r 1871 buffalo classic in 45-70? I went to the range to test recoil using stout loads. I was shooting 340 grains cast bullets with 53 grains of IMR3031. Not max for this...

The question is what are you working with? Most people baseline is clip on wheel weights so you are at about BHN 10 or 20 with oven hardening/water quenching. The question is then: what do you need? Easiest is to do 50/50 wheel weight/pure lead...

This was mildly interesting. I was using some old IMR3031 from an old square metal can do do plinking loads for my 45-70 rifles. The RCBS Quckcharge was doing a reasonably good job at keeping the charges at 50 grains but when I ran out of the old...
