brewer12345 replied to a thread .490 round ball in Cast Boolits
I bought an older, well used Lyman .490 4 banger from a fellow forum member. I think the mold has a slight patina in the cavities or something because it positively rains nice round balls. They just roll out of the mold onto the towel I let them...

I whacked 3 more skrats today. I am going to freeze the pelts individually so that I can defrost and tan one at a time so I can learn how to do this well.

An easy way to get market for what you are selling is to list them on gunbroker with a longer auction period, lots of photos, and no reserve. I find those auctions are very efficient in running the price up to market.

WADR, not cheaper than rimfire. Case of mini mags will run you $300 for 5000. That said, there is no comparing boolits you cast stuffed into cartridges you load that have loads you gave honed to great accuracy. I guess I have to look at this...

Well, took a closer look at the rifle and it appears to have been refinished. Kills any collector value, but the bore looked OK and the action is smooth. Will have to decide if I want a project.

There is a Remington Model 25 hanging on the wall at the local shop that I pick up every time I walk in there. I don't know if I will end up buying it, but the cartridge and rifle seem like the sort of thing I would have fun fooling with. Brass...

brewer12345 replied to a thread 45acp LSWC, Fail in Cast Boolits
I shoot a lot of the SWC in my XDM. The critical success factor is to be very careful with the plunk test. As long as I can get it to plunk, the rounds cycle nicely even at a modest 4.5 grains of bullseye charge. If I get lazy about checking the...

Thanks, gw. I have only a rudimentary grasp of this stuff despite being a beginner leathercrafter, but I about figured out that getting as far as salting would mean that the hide would be preserved and then I could figure out what to do with it to...

That is what I would do. The only thing to be careful of is that you want straight cast balls. If what you are buying is swaged, they are typically coated in graphite and may not take the coating well.

Appreciate all the advice. I am trying to go slow and not mess it up. If I do, I guess that is part of the learning curve. So far, I have washed the hide in soap and water, fleshed it, stretched it, and salted it with Kosher salt. I am...

In this case, the skrat was taken with a headshot. Brain tanning not an option with this one.

I hunt a lot with a modern shotgun: birds, waterfowl, small game, etc. It occurs to me that it might be fun to do this with a black powder shotgun at least part of the time. Anyone use a BP shotgun to hunt? Aside from slower reloading, what is...

I picked up a copy of this mold recently, but I haven't cast with it yet. I did some digging and it sounds like sizing is sometimes an issue. If I find the bullets are not quite fat enough I have read that a lot of guys have had success paper...

Don't have the molds you want, but would happily buy the 2 cavity 570 round ball if you change your mind about selling. Heck, I could just order you a Lee mold in return.
