    that is what i figured it was doing as when the metal is hot the structure is expanded and when quenched the part that is thinner quenches faster and is able to lock in the new structure faster thus less shrinkage is allowed making the hole bigger.....

    too low a velocity might be it then.. if it is tumbling it is not being stabilized no matter what twist it is, it is just the physics of the critter.. a stable bullet spins at a fast enough rate to where the gyroscopic forces lock it into a point...

    just some i found at scrap dealer and i water quenched it from 1,400*F.. not sure exactly what kind it is.. it is hard enough to cut unannealed grade 8 bolt material but will flex a bit and not break..

    with that much zinc id be making dry pile batteries.. zinc is great for battery anode plates. if you can get the zinc to thin as a foil and using copper foil you can make a battery the length of a paper towel tube using typewriter paper disks...
