KVO replied to a thread Help. New hollowpoint in Cast Boolits
Try ever so slightly bending the rail guides up with a smooth faced adjustable wrench to move the pin higher up. also make sure the blocks are completely closing with the pins in, no daylight between the block faces.

Bear in mind it's just the ONE boolit on the far left of each row that's PC filled, the others are a contol sample. Thanks for the positive feedback y'all!

Various experiments by others have addressed adding fillers such as silicone and wax to HP cavities to improve expansion with sometimes impressive results. Anyone that's PC cast HP invariably ends up with a few boolits having an excess of powder in...

I used fairly soft alloy (range scrap), wet patched as-cast, smeared JPW on the patch then ran them through a .431" push thru sizer. Didn't feel like investing in a bore-diameter sizer for experimentation at this time. A few of the patches tore at...

I was curious (famous last words) if paper patched would survive the transition through a revolver cylinder to forcing cone. So apparently it does. Nine shots at 25yd, .44 magnum cases and an arbitrary load of 10.0gr Unique and patched #503 SWC...

If the ballistics lab finds some residual patch material and Googles "green bar printer paper" that'll narrow down the suspect list pretty quick ;-)

GT Bullets appears to catalog a large HP version of the #503, possibly the NOE version because the cavity looks a little larger than the Mihec large pins in mine: http://www.gtbullets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=49 ...

ThomR, I'd not get too hung up on the boolit profile matching your carry ammo because they may or may not shoot to a similar POI even if they are dimensionally identical. The engraving force and subsequent pressure curve is going to be different...

By XTP style, are you meaning profile and therefore feeding characteristics, or terminal ballistic performance? Just because they have the same shape does not necessarily mean they will have the same point of impact. Give us a bit more info as to...

Got mine yesterday. The Germans impressed upon us their usual love of adherence to protocol. "Herr Prevec is shipping 50 of the exact same item this week. He does this every two weeks. This is surely a desensitization plot so that box 900+ will in...

The Mihec 359-125 HP (like Forrest r shows) seems to be the "standard" for 9mm cast hollow points. There's a group buy on them now, I believe it is in last call. He also keeps them in stock at regular price most of the time. I keep wafting back and...

If you get really adventuresome with modifying or making your own HP pins, the NOE molds are easy to play with. Al sells blank RG pins for just a few bucks.

NOE 358-135 with the deep pins: Same boolit and velocity, boolit on the left the cavity was slightly modified but achieved essentially the same result. And this is the Mihec 360-640 with the deep pins, 20:1 ~145gr. It is designed for...

Historically this has been more of a manufacturing tolerance issue than an aerodynamics problem with jacketed bullets. It's much easier to make a consistently flat 90 degree base from bullet to bullet than it is a boat tail as production dies wear...

I'd be in for a 4 cavity HP, I'd like to try a NLG just because. Not a deal breaker if lube groove is the only option though. In regards to HP pins, it would be interesting to make one set a BIG pin and turn this into a dual purpose design as an...

If you can fabricate a pin for your devistator mold that has the dimensions of your Lee HP pin you will get much more retained weight in any test media, or game for that matter. It doesn't take much to get expansion at those velocities. I've found...
