I have the TC 1:48" twist, and it shoots a maxi ball really well. I've tried to make a round ball shoot as well, but have not so far. For how popular the maxi ball is, I'm not seeing a lot of description for hunting. This is usually a bad sign....

I figured what the heck, I ordered the 55-430M from Accurate molds. I have a bunch of molds I need to post for sale anyway, what's one more if it doesn't work out. What I want is something that shoots as good as the maxiball, but kills as...

Its a non-issue. I duck hunt with only bismuth now. Never been field tested, but ran into a warden in town. Both rotometals bismuth shot and my home made shot come up as bismuth on the tester. Bismith/tin alloy has been well known since the mid...

This is a design I've heard nothing about, except for a few who really like it. I am seeing two distinct versions. One is the Lyman solid, which appears to cast too small. The other a Hornady hollow base which has mixed reviews. My 54 caliber really...

It is ridiculous. It is probably the single biggest moment for Minnesota, the time when we even beat out California for stupid ideas. Of course the ban went nation wide just a few years later, but none of it did any good. Arguing against gun control...

Just to be more clear, I am interested in what is labeled as ".080" base wall" on that drawing for my base pin. While I can understand the interest in a thick walled style "turbo" base, I would second guess a flat top. I had one of mine originally...

I don't think it would be possible to have an over pressure round bulge like that, not in just one spot. If it was the chamber, you would not be able to extract that round. That is most certainly caused during reloading. Probably not the sizer, more...

Game wardens have been carrying Hotshot devices country wide for decades to test waterfowl hunters. If they didn't carry something similar in CA, anybody could load jacketed lead bullets, put them in a Barnes ammo box, and nobody would know better. ...

that is a very good question Sir. i too have noticed that, and attributed it to layer influence... but it should be universally the same, not way under for heavier loads and closer for lighter.. not much help from me, but am interested.

Simple? You have to hunt through 4 different stores to find oddball ingredients to make something that is only good for range use, not hunting.

For sure, I'm just guessing brewer12345's is on the normal to loose side. My 54 caliber has a .540" bore an .551" groove, and I could just barely start a .535" ball with pillow ticking by hand. It took a lot of force. When cast of 20/1 alloy, they...

You'll find something that will work. That along with some at 4 grains, and if you have them, magnum primers, they will work. I've made lighter loads than that, just not with trail boss. Anyone who has fire lapped has shot similar loads.

I do think a .495" ball would be worth a try. I couldn't get away with the slightly larger ball, because my patching would cut on loading. If your thick patches looked good, the thinner patch with the larger ball may be a good one. I would swab...

What kind of accuracy are you looking for? 2 things that I started doing long ago are one, use a CCI magnum caps, and two swab between shots. For fun, swabbing isn't needed, but it is needed for working up loads. You need a consistent bore, and...
