I do enjoy single shots. Just makes a nice day at the range last a little longer.. Ruger #1 in .222 from 1968 and a Stevens model 52 in 38-55.. Have a few others like a Stevens 44 in .22 and the TC Contender in about a dozen calibers. One...

Had a gun dealer tell my (wife was with me) that a .38 was as useless as a purse full of rocks for self defense. I asked he'd volunteer to stand 50ft from her and let her shoot at him. All of a sudden a 38 was acceptable for self defense. I even...

LOL, I did about the same thing with a 10" octagon 30-30. Less than a box of factory rounds through it. Makes a heck of a fireball at night. Got rid of it pretty quick. I like the little lee 113 gr bullet with a little red dot.. Google "30-30...

The lighter bullet would work better I think. There is a really short throat on this rifle and not much room in the magazine either. I tried one last night and had to seat it really deep to get it to chamber. I tried a 311291 (my most universal 30...

Scope mount wasn't broken or missing anything. The previous owner just didn't get how this style of Weaver scope mount works. Fixed in two minutes.

Think I'll try the 311467 Lyman bullet in this rifle. I think it might be perfect for it and I already have a bunch cast up. Have lots of Unique, Blue Dot and IMR 4198 just need to get some brass.

I've seen a lot of goofy stuff done to guns but this scope mounting job takes the prize.

Not sure when I'll get to shoot it. I sure hope it shoots better than it looks. It sure doesn't have much going for it in the way of aesthetics. It has to be the most unattractive firearm I own at present and I have a bunch of ugly guns in the safe....

I actually have an old Lyman peep sight for the Savage but this one is later model and doesn't have the holes for the peep sight or relief in the stock. Maybe I'll run across an older one some day I can put the peep sight on. I did find a front...

I was at a local pawn shop a few months ago and noticed a Savage 340 in 30-30 (turned out to be an 840). Left and went on my way. Was back in the area this weekend and it was still there and it ended up coming home with me. Someone didn't have a...
