Noticed a few at the barn today too. All loaded for the season. Will wait a couple of days as the main flight isn't in yet. Can't wait to try out the new recipes./beagle

beagle replied to a thread Cracked Lyman 45 in Casting Equipment
I was at an estate sale years ago and here are three Lyman #45 frames, painted Lyman orange that had never been used. Never figured how that came about. Didn't have the money or I'd have bought them. Pretty hard to make repairs on a casting. It...

I'd throw the shot in a tumbler with some graphite, let it run for about 3 hours and drive on. Shot's too expensive./beagle

I have been knocking chores out. Worked on a temporary patch on my roof, got out some molds and did some casting, sized a bunch of bullets. Took a bike ride around my neighborhood with my boys today and have been Netflixing with the wife as well.

I set the barrel back on my M98 Rhineland so it buts up against the internal barrel stop (Kuhnhausen calls it an "internal barrel torque shoulder") as a Mauser is supposed to and then tightened the barrel nut. That set the barrel back 0.125. I...

Seems to be a problem since about 2000. I have run across numerous such cases that fit as described or won't fit at all in Lee and RCBS shell holders. Seems manufacturing tolerances on the extractor groove have slipped a bit.

If you have Lee's Liquid Alox that will work just fine. just put a very light coat on the (as per Lee's directions) and let thoroughly dry before loading. No need to size again. 45-45-10 is usually a home made concoction, although it is...

As I recall, the HP has been cloned so many times that it don't know what it is anymore. I was looking for one and found the FN and it's a HP through and through. Made in Belgium, assembled in Columbia, SC. Has many improvements. A month later,...

I've done considerable testing of BB vs FB cast bullets of the same design in 38, 44 and 45 calibers. Testing was done in 38 and 44 with revolvers and with revolvers and semi autos, all from a Ransom Rest with target at 50 yards . in every test...

fatelk I've pressure tested some old 32 S&W factory which had BP in them. The R-P load ran right at 14,000 psi and the WRA (had about 4 gr of what appeared to be 4f BP) ran at 16,000 psi. I loaded some 88 gr lead bullets over 7 gr GOEX 4F and...

I shot a lot of cast in a Ruger Deerstalker years ago that belonged to a friend. It didn't do well with the 429421 but did extremely well with the 429215. Back then I didn't quite understand the slow twist (30 something inch twist0 and the longer...

Might remember with some old Lyman moulds that Lyman made custom dimensional alterations at customer request back in the day. Your could be one of those or it could be mismarked. However, if not a custom mould that design (GC'd with a small...

Yes, a mat should be used in a tactical situation. Poncho doesn't work too well but an old shelter half works pretty good. Actually the dust gets blown to the side and back so it doesn't really interfere with the shooter's perspective that much. ...

I shot 50 shots out of my Mini Mk X of the 2.7 gr Bullseye/90 SWC once with the same case (IMI case with WLR primers) and didn't get any shoulder set back. That's not to say it wouldn't happen with other brands of cases. Suggest trying some with...

As mentioned the 30-115-SP is excellent for use in the 30 Carbine. It would also be excellent in your M1903 for casual plinking and small game. Cast soft, left unsized with no GC and simply TL'd in LLA then loaded over Bullseye (4 - 6 gr) to a...

It is a slower burning powder as mentioned. It also is best used with a magnum LR primer of with those made for ball powders such as the WLR. It also performs best when used in the .308W with heavier jacketed bullets such as 180s, 190s and 200 gr...

Use an RCBS X-die and you won't have to trim if the cases are once fired and have not yet been sized. Unless for a really tight match chamber the standard 223 X-die is what's needed, the small base and "AR" X-die are not needed. Yes, I know the...

I would send the op rod and the gas cylinder to Columbus. If necessary, they can install an oversize gas piston and ream the gas cylinder to match. If the gas cylinder is still within spec, they can simply replace the gas piston with a standard...

I formed a bunch of .270 brass into .35 Whelen, and it worked well for that. The tapered expander on the Redding die is rated for 7mm on up, and I did manage to smash a few pieces of brass. I first expanded the remainder to 7mm and had no...
