The older Lyman 66 had a small “lip” at top of base that would allow you to precisely locate base holes. I don’t think Williams has this lip, so it can be used on several flat sided levers. The 1894 receivers aren’t hard to drill. The main thing is...

I’ve cut off several 22 rifles which is easiest to get rid of bore damage at muzzle. I have had one case that I was forced to counter bore. With my luck it was my own gun. I had a Savage 24 in 22/410 hid in my cabin. Before deer season I always took...

My best buddy used to make fun of me for buying older used guns for the same money or more that I could buy a new Remington 700. I remember the day we stopped at LGS to pick up a new Rem 700 in 8mm mag. Shop had just taken in a 1895 Win 30/40 cal. I...

I guess what I was talking about is a super super 357 max. Proportioned like 44mg is to 444. I say 357 because its smallest legal diameter. Most hunting accidents in Ohio take place at starting or finishing point. More are hurt and killed...

I have a couple Marlin Levers, a 1897 and a 39m and 6 22 revolvers / 5 22 auto pistols. These are probably the most useful to shoot with one ammo. I’ve got a Marlin 1894 44mg and Ruger SBH and two m29-2 S&Ws. Can’t see carrying both unless under...

I have owned and or shot tons of 32 cal pistols and revolvers. From break top 32short to 327mag in revolvers and 7.63mm in pistols. Never experience any that I would rate as uncomfortable to shoot because of recoil.

375Win is hot 38/55. Case is heavier but little shorter. The point I was trying to make is the straight cases are like a arms race. The whole idea of them was to limit velocity/ range. The traditional deer rifles 30/30, 32, 35Rem are no more...

White Tail deer are not Cape Buffalo. In Ohio we must use 38cal minimum. Most deer shoot under 100yds. A 357mg is adequate for the job. Obsessing over meta plates and hollow points is arm chair stuff. I have 45/70, 44mg and 375Win. The 45/70 is a...

I did a scope once, didn’t work out well. In Jack O’Connor’s book the chapter on scopes has in 1st paragraph, Two kids of people take scopes apart, experts and fools. I was not in expert category. Getting the older scopes serviced is pricey.
