If you just want a shooter I guess repros are ok. The good ones aren't cheap either. I could never see the point. If it's not original as far as I'm concerned you might as well buy one of the low end bolt actions. A lot of the new stuff will...

I loaded 200gr cast 358 rifle bullets into 357cases cut so they would fit in chambers of Ruger Blackhawk. They weren't light loads. I cut 357 cases because I wanted the magnum case head. I'm not sure if they were cut to 38sp length. They were...

If you are talking about a 38 service type revolver with notch in frame for sight and you are 6" at practical 38 ranges front sight would be best bet. Lighter bullet may be achieved but at ranges you would shoot that type of gun I doubt you would...

I come across falling block H&As once in a while but not that many of the cheaper types. Survival rate on them is poor just like bottom of the line boys rifles from the other makers. They were rode hard and put away wet. When you think about the...

Lyman made a mold for stackable 357 bullets back in 70s or 80s. It was in all the gun rags at the time. Our military experimented with 7.62 NATO in Duplex and Triplex rounds. I saw Duplex round in training, on a board cut in half to see how it was...

I would suspect it is the brass itself, especially 223/5.56. They are running this stuff in the millions. I have seen cartridges ate up from inside. Older ammo with corrosive primer compounds and early smokeless powder. I bought several thousand rds...

A friend of mine inherited a sporter built on 6.5 Jap. Was the nicest Jap sporter I ever saw. His GPa had brought it home from WW2 and must have spared no expense. Barrel had even been turned. It had been punched to 257 Roberts. Rifle was shooting...

I have a buddy who just went into a rest home. He bought a Smitty about 10yrs ago when he retired. Both us had connections for tooling. We amassed a ton of stuff. I saw no problem with the lathe mode other than its to small. We made a lot of parts...

What ever you pick you will be better off with a Win or Marlin. Exception is the questionable quality of new Mar made by Rem. I like the older guns and newest Levers I have were Marlins from 50s-70. The Wins & Brns that are remakes of older Win...

I don't know how many snakes a member has shot but I have shot a lot of them. Most non poisonous water snakes. Most shot with 22LRs. at fairly close range with time to aim. Snakes are tough critters and if you don't hit them in the head or blow it...

Drm50 replied to a thread I want pure lead! in Muzzleloading.
To be sure of " lead" you are using I would get some known pure lead and cast some balls. If they load properly you know the flange lead is alloyed. Most of the old roofing lead is close to pure, some still is but some is alloyed with zinc.

Two points, Marlin lever guns don't like SWC style bullets. Even Marlin 39 doesn't feed well with Trunicated cone style bullets. You can double clutch the lever, just back it off a little when cartridge top the carrier and nose of bullet will drop....

Me too, the TCs are better guns than H&R, Henry or import breakdowns. H&Rs are selling for $350-400 locally if in Ohio legal deer cartridge. I don't see the value in them. I'm not a fan of TCs either I think all the break downs are over priced.

I shoot nothing but cast and mostly WCs in all calibers in my S&W revolvers. I don't like Lee WCs. They may be ok at up to 50ft. but we shoot out to 100yds with Lyman 438-148 and Lee WCs key hole badly. Shooting in 357 cases out of m27 S&W. I didn't...

I shoot Hornady 55gr SX in all my 22CFs which are all BAs. It's good bullet and second choice would be Speer 55gr SP. I figure 55gr is lightest bullet that is practical for for my shooting which is varmit and seldom shoot over 400yds.
