One of my bucket guns is a original 86 in 45/70, either couldn't afford them or they were not in the kind of shape I would buy. I have 3 45/70s- Ruger #1, #3 and old JM Marlin 95. I shoot a 322 cast HP in the Rugers for fun and shoot Hornady...

My 1st brand new HP rifle was a Win 70fw/ .308. I really didn't pick it out it was one of several guns I got from a business going out of business when I-70 went through. It so happens this is a pre 64, even though that's the year I got it. I put...

Winchester went down the tubes in 1963. AMF Corp took over Win and ruined the whole line. The rifles made under them were what gave the Win trade mark a black eye. This is the same company that ran Harley Davison in the ground the same way. ...

You would think Ruger would see the market for the older big bore cartridges. Most guys into this would be the type who wants Tang Sights, if they are like me. They could adapt a tang that would mount on reciever. I have a original like that on a...

Some years ago I had a RB in 357. I never hunted with it other than shooting a few opportunity groundhogs. Did a good bit of plinking with it and would do ok at 100yds on 2liter jugs. The one I had was from Navy Arms and I think was made in 1960s.

There was a era that clunkers of any brand never were sent out for sale. The reason they had a lot of human hands on them from start to finish. Even something as mundane as a single shot 22 or shotgun, which was about $20 when I was a kid, was...

Again there is a big difference in Rugers over the years. Besides a little heavier I would say they are about even with new production S&Ws. Rugers will hold up better than S&Ws especially with magnum loads, they are built like a tank.

The 24-25-27-29-57 in a hi condition shooter are $900-$1000, if you are willing to settle for some blue wear and some minor dings & aftermarket grips, $700-$900. You don't see many cheaper in N frame unless it's a 28. The dash number after model...
