I have some powder stored in large coolers with silica gel and oxygen absorbers. Even have a dozen cans of 452AA. Funny how it seems to be getting mentioned more recently. I don’t know if vacuum is much help, just displacing air with nitrogen might...

I’ve had many long discussions about the importance of the bevel angle on bevel-down plane irons, I’ve always viewed it as just being a clearance angle. Have spoken to Ron Hock and he agrees as do some other folk, others do not, it’s the 9mm vs 45...

Appreciate the creativity, but when it’s 500 degrees from the last pour and you’re trying to get those plates back on with the clamps I suspect that you’ll be using creative language.

Abunaitoo, I have heard that coconut shell charcoal is good, but have never tried it. Well these guys say no. They suggest grape vine. https://pyrodata.com/chemicals/Charcoal

I like having clean brass ready to go, especially for plinking and pistol, so I have 5 gal pails for dirty by caliber and 50cal ammo cans by caliber for clean and ready to reload. When I have a dirty bucket full I process it. I do decap prior to...

Yes, in use you set the primary angle and sharpen to the edge, then you lower the wheel just a bit and hone a secondary bevel. In the process you can flip the blade over to polish the back of the blade without removing the guide. For subsequent...

Rusty, the solution is to figure out what you’re doing wrong and to stop doing it, but you haven’t provided enough info. The members have a ton of experience, but your experience seems pretty unique so folks can’t guess at what it is you’re doing....

I use an old ammo can, remove the gasket and place it upside down, build fire around it. Burn for 2-3 hours. If you go too long the only problem is that you get a bit more ash. I use the ammo can that is the same base as the 50cal can but twice the...

JimB.. replied to a thread Charcoal for flux in Casting Equipment
I make charcoal in an old ammo can. Take the rubber seal out, burn the can in a fire to remove the finish. Stuff it full of wood, close the top, put it in the firepit upside down. Start fire, remove can in a couple hours and let cool while closed...

You can precipitated the lead, but there are other metals that are more difficult to deal with, so making it safe in this manner is not trivial. However, the solution can be allowed to evaporate and the metallic compounds will not evaporate, so...
