Good advice on the vise setup and center punch. If you have access to a numeric bit set, for hand drilling in aluminum just go down one size. Your hand wobble will more than make up for it. If this concerns you, keep in mind you can always...

Wow, how far RCBS has fallen. A green 25# PID pot for under $200, and the reviews are so mixed that casters hesitate. Their previous US non-PID model was so good, people were buying over PID choices.

I use the NOE expander even where it is not necessary... or even not usually necessary. If an occasional case has more resistance then the rest, I know something's up with that case.

I think the OP blamed Marlin more than SAAMI, which would be correct. Manufacturers drive SAAMI standards, not the other way around. It took Marlin decades to correct the 444 twist to allow for easier stabilization of 280-300gr. Another decade or so...

Unless it doesn't melt. Which was the OP's problem. Then you have to wait for it to dissolve. Which is why I said dissolve and not melt.

Forget oil, it only adds stink. Fluxing helps alloy the metals and separate dross. That's something you do at the end of the run. But you need something to prevent oxidation during the long and hot run while the Superhard dissolves. That's...

Lapping is an option, especially since it is casting rather small (typical for a modern Lyman). Some more tin and pressure casting with a ladle might give you another .001"... maybe. If you decide you have nothing to lose, you could always try...

Your lapping was so gentle I very much doubt you messed up the mold. I agree with Rcmaverick and others that the post lap pic shows cold mold casts. While bringing up the temps will fix the appearance issue, it may not help the sticking issue....

Do NOT use Chlorinated brake cleaner (often marked "Synthetic") for anything that will be heated. Very small amounts can make you very sick. http://www.brewracingframes.com/safety-alert-brake-cleaner--phosgene-gas.html

rking22, ulav8r is right, just rechambering won't help, the barrel has to be set further back against the breech in some way. As an expediency, headspacing on the shoulder (AI or not) can be done, as long as you don't share brass with another...
