Traffer replied to a thread New rimfire round in Rimfire Area
If anyone has a spare .243 barrel they want to donate, I will make it into a .243 rim fire using 22 WMR cases and heeled bullets. With that faster twist it should stabilize 65 maybe 70 grain bullets at maybe 1600 fps? That would be a fun project.

I bought one of these three years ago for $25 delivered...Almost fell off the chair to see they are going for $70 now. But it is a good mold ...Lots of people like them...I think maybe because they are good in most guns...some guns need that...

Traffer replied to a thread Lead ore in Lead and Lead Alloys
From Wikipedia: "Up until the early 20th century, roasting was started by burning wood on top of ore. This would raise the temperature of the ore to the point where its sulfur content would become its source of fuel, and the roasting process could...

There are two different ways to do hydraulic depriming....One is to put water in the case and then hit a plug into the mouth of the case...THAT WILL deform the case. But the kind of hydraulic depriming on the video uses a tube to place the case...

Yup ...high sulfur content...gotta roast it out...you could do it in the back yard if you made a furnace that would force air THROUGH the burning sulfured ore... A little messy and you would probably kill all the neighbors within a couple of blocks...

Maybe a diesel type tool...Like a fire starter only with a bit of diesel fuel that would ignite when hit with a hammer...But then why not use water...much easier. And Water will get5 them out. If the tool is made correct and you hit it hard enough...

There are factors involved with both the 22 rim fire ammo and the 22 rifles that work to create difficulty for consistency. 1) With a charge of 1.0 to 2.0 grains of powder just a tenth of a grain will quite noticeably effect the group. 2) The...

Traffer replied to a thread .22lr in the snow in Rimfire Area
I love cold weather and would shoot some targets in the winter (Wisconsin) But several things prevent that: 1. Don't have a place to shoot. We have a range but it closes from Thanksgiving to May. 2. I am feeble and poor health now and cant do...

Well here is a tip from a hardened northerner. I was living with some other young fellas when college aged. We had a wood burner that heated the whole house. The kitchen bathroom had a gas heater from a trailer we tore apart but that was the part of...

In Wisconsin in the winter (-22 F last night) everyone speaks English. Wonder why. I LOVE the cold weather...I mean -40. Freezes out the global warming crowd. "Hey Algore" No more snow in the contiguous 48 states after 2013? Just think if Al...

Traffer replied to a thread New rimfire round in Rimfire Area
The ONE great drawback for a 22WMR is poor accuracy. For the reasons mentioned earlier the modification to a heeled bullet in the same case COULD WELL solve that problem. Powder coated bullets between maybe 65 and 40 grains with more speed and...

An idea that I have been thinking about is the suggestion that 22WMR could be loaded with a heeled bullet. Checking the dimensions it looks promising. Would be a 243 Caliber rim fire. There are plenty of 243 Win barrels out there especially for the...
