Had a brand new Marlin Cowboy model in .45 Colt that did the same with all loads, from factory loads to cast loads. Cases always came out looking like a pregnant guppie fish.

Got a Type 38 with a 28” bull barrel on it for a bench rest rifle!!! It’s chambered in 6.5-308,(before it was called 260 Remington). It shoots wonderfully. At 13 pounds overall, zero recoil! Found an old Timney target trigger for it, works for me.

I’ve used it in .45 ACP for years. Then when BLL came along it got relegated to the back of the shelf. Just got grins I PC’ed some rnfp for my old 30/30, then rolled them around in JPW boy did they shoot clean!! It has its place for sure.
