Have some loaded up hoping to get out in next week or so. Did a second batch with not as much powder on them and they came out much better than the first.

Appreciate the answers from all. I have reloaded some powder coated bullets in 38 special I had bought that needed to be sized and rsrocket1 you’re right as they slid through the sizer die slick as hell.

One answer I canít seem to find is a powder coated bullet as hard as a plated bullet? Iíve been told not to shoot jacketed or plated in a gun as old as the trapdoor I have because of the softer metal used for the barrel as they will wear it out. I...

I’m looking at doing the same as what you are. Powder coating for a trapdoor and using both smokeless and black powder. With the amount of work it took me to remove leading and **** from a 136 year old barrel I want to do everything I can to prevent...

I think I’m going to go with the beeswax olive oil mix and see how that works as well as giving powder coating a try.

Irishtoo that’s a good question as I got in a discussion at the range today with some over powder coating. A guy whom I always thought was more of a hero in his own mind was saying that powder coat bullets would cause issues in my 1873 Trapdoor...

Thanks everyone for the information. I was able to cast a 100 of them today. Still trying to get a handle on that as some were at 405 grains and some as low as 396 grains. Anyways going to pan lube half and get the makings to powder coat the rest.

Iím casting the Lee 405 grain hollow base for my 1873 Springfield Trapdoor. I am going to use both smokeless and Goex. Will powder coating the hollowbase bullet be ok using smokeless powder in this Trapdoor? I would assume that when using Goex a...

I’m casting using the Lee 405 hollow base for 1873 trapdoor. According to Wolf and a few others the bullet should be 20 to 1 lead/tin up to 40 to 1. I’m going to try the roof lead first then start mixing the tin in. I did some with some other lead...

Blndshooter pretty much explained how to if you don’t have a depth micrometer. My LNL always set primers at .0035 to .004 and with a .003 shim it’s always .004 now.

I not sure why you would want a probe that long as a 4 or 6 inch would fit better. But yes it looks like it would take the heat.

This is one Of the 500 flat base and one of the 405 hollowbase. Most of them have a flaky look to them not sure if thatís due to the moulds or lead. Going to clean the moulds up and then give it another try this week.
