I think a few weeks back some guy from down under on one of these threads was taking about his Sav 99 in a 27/250 wildcat. I've never heard of it, sounds cool.

In my experience with the 30/30 using 165 - 173 cast lead boolits, I had very good results in the 1400 - 1600 fps range. Old fart loads.

When your area gets the mange the yote population decreases fast, may be several years with a low poor hunting population. Once you see a yote with the mange, naked, no fur, not a pretty sight. They don't fetch much money. Then you have an...

I just replied to the H335 question here. Take a look at my response, the Hodgdon load data web site is your friend. Play with it. It will give you your answer.

gumbo333 replied to a thread H335 in Canister & Surplus Powder
Have you ever looked at the Hodgdon load data web site? Look it up and play with it. If you go to the rifle cartridges and at #1 put in 30/30, then at the powder, #4 (I think) put in H335, then go back to #1 and click on it, it will show you all the...

After that first Lee hand primer Lee made a faster hand primer. One with a round primer tray, held a tray of primers, you could easily change from large primer size to small primer. They were the best. Then Lee came out with an improved design, one...

Larry G at least here in Big Red country our rocks and clods are not venomous like in AZ. That's a big deal to me. I've never had a cigar box full of rock rattles.

Terminatorret I've been coating all my purchased lubed boolits with BLL for years. So easy to do. Never a bit of leading and your barrel stays so clean. Does anyone wipe your barrel with Johnsons liquid wax(or similar) after shooting?

Terminatorret - thanks, I may give them a try. Dapati - the gmdr low velocity web site is your friend for the 45/70, 30/30 and many more. You need to use slow, safe, carefull loading practices. I also weigh each load separately on a beam. I now use...

I've enjoyed low velocity loads in both my 30/30 and 45/70. Have never pre-positioned my powder. Nor have I found that a magnum primer is any better than a standard primer. What I would like to find are some heavy .311 boolits, 190gr or 200gr. I...

Good whack with a leather/ rubber hammer. The Greybeards site has a lot of Contender issues covered. The Mike Belm site covers the different locking lug styles, he has a bunch of info for Contenders. If you had 2 or more barrels you could try...

Simple open C presses are great for depriming dies, case mouth flairing (M) dies, Lee FCD, etc. I have a Lee C press mounted next to my Lyman Crusher. They are great companions, but you need 2 shell holders. Lee can fix that.

When fireforming, don't put your cheek on the stock and face behind the bolt. If the brass fills out well, should be good to go. Even if a slight imperfection should finish fireforming on the next shot. Good time to practice your hip shot.

I still have my first reloading set up, a Lee deluxe in 6mm rem and the plastic/ rubber hammer that I bought to whack it with. It has that hand primer in it. I used the primer for many years. Must be about 1970 vintage. Oh the good ole days. But...

To Larry G, when you find that the pressure is higher with the cast boolit, is it close to the jacketed pressure? Any dangerously higher? This very interesting. Thank you.

You can coat your cast 45\70 boolites with PC or HyTek and forget the grease. Or buy already cast and coated boolits. 300 grainers with mouse fart loads barely kick. But every 45\70 I've had shot 405 grainers better.

The little tub of JB paste I've used for nearly 30 years seems to be partly bees wax. For several years it has separated a bit, you have to mix it a bit to use it. I think you would have to use a bunch on a really tight jag, refreshing often, to...
