What have I made from a 30-06 case? A file cleaner. An inside thread cleaner. Didn't have a dental pick handy.

broken arrow, You caught me! Yes, I'm cheating and using some factory parts instead of making all of them. Thanks for the info. Figured I'd get better response here but should have known I could have asked over at home gunsmith. Jedmen,...

I'm building a Remington Model 6 from a few original parts and would like to know how thick the side plates are and the outside diameter of the barrel at the breach is. I'm starting with a frame, breach block, hammer and trigger. Everything else...

gpidaho, I understand you consternation about steel case ammo but the 527 was designed for it so that’s what I shoot. I’m working through a case of Wolf FMJ and another of soft point. My 527 is mostly for plinking and coyote hunting.

Mauser, My response is to your first post and premise to this thread, that is 7.62x39 Wolf ammo is one of the main contributing factors to the SKS and AKs poor accuracy. You are blaming the ammo for the rifle’s inherent inaccuracy. Because when...

So the poor accuracy of the SKS and AK is because of the ammo? Well... I can take that cheap Wolf FMJ ammo and shoot it in my CZ 527 Carbine and group just fine. 1.5-2” at 100 yards with iron sights all day long. I installed a Skinner peep sight...

Thanks Larry for the clarification on the pressure. I have a bunch of 158gr cast already to go but only a single stage press... well two single stage presses. I'm making use of what I have on hand. It's all fun. Further progress. Had to...

vzeron, Yes, there were Trapdoors made for 30-40 Krag. They experimented with different barrels but the receivers were not noted for being any different than 45-70. Now, I could be wrong so if anyone knows any better please chime in....

My Lyman reloading manual has the Trapdoor loads rated at 18000 psi too but SAMMI rates 45-70 Gov at 28000 psi. I’ve also seen 25000 psi quoted. Now modern 45-70 Gov. is supposed to be equivalent to the original 45-70-405 load for the Trapdoor......

I'd like to find someone who has a Trapdoor trigger guard with no swivel lug. Prefer one that is ground off and polished. Doesn't have to be an original carbine trigger guard. I will buy outright or trade for Trapdoor trigger guard with lug and...

Aww shucks, you guys are too nice with all the comments! :) Here's a little more progress. I was going to make a tang mounted sight but why reinvent the wheel? Not one of the older folding ladder sights but just a small peep sight. I've...

oldred, I need to get some needle nose vice grips. That would sure help. For some of the filing I have an old Palmgren angle vice but for the fine work it was all by hand. Larry, I tried a lighter spring but it didn’t work any better than no...
