I've never shot a bear, but I can pretty much guarantee a .45 cal lead slug weighing 420 gr started at 1,200 fps, inside 125 yds will glide right through a deer & leave a good bleeding hole both coming & going!

This re-newed thread got me to dig out my Ruger #1 .45-70 target folder. Looking at the targets, I'm still amazed at the cast bullet accuracy with 340 to 405 gr bullets, hand cast or store bought, using Unique. Low recoil & clover-leaf groups. ...

I only use Johnson Paste Wax..... I've had a few "sorta-stucks" in the past with other stuff, but I KNOW JPW works! Use plumber's putty to fill any voids in the receiver. FWIW

I had a 410 Cooey when I was a kid. I got it when it came in on a trade at the hardware store where I worked. Nice little gun, but I sold it when I started college.

As much as I enjoy hunting them my wife is not much of a fan when it comes to eating them. I always gave them to a neighbor, but he passed a couple of years ago and I haven't found anyone who is interested so I just put the crosshairs on them,...

And you could have said, "I wasn't, but since you have suggested it - YES."

Yes, that could be the problem. Shooting off a bench for groups means good rifle, good ammo & good set-up!

I think I have tried about everything mentioned: towel in the basement (winter), towel in the back yard (summer), hair dryer, oven, and the Frankford Arsenal brass dryer. They all work, but obviously different amounts of time. I finally saved...

It seems like the .357 Max would indeed be an ideal caliber for the #3 if you want to keep it light, fast & handy - close to its original configuration. Especially if you like pistol cartridges. Lots of flexibility there for ammo, cases, bullets &...

There is a big problem with rebarreling a Ruger #3. If you have an intact condition rifle, they are too valuable to alter! LOL Great project & good shooting!

Yes, it's a #3 with #1 wood. Years ago I bought a Ruger #3 at a gun show for $350. It had been rebarreled with a fly-rod diameter Apex barrel in .270 Win. The scope bases were kinda "bubba-ed" on but it shot pretty fair & was solid. My only...

Nice, VERY nice! Good looking rifle & interesting caliber. Can't wait to hear how it shoots. I have a Ruger #1, #2 & #3. They are my favorite rifles. I like the way your scope mount fits the custom barrel. This is always a point of contention on a...
