The 99 Savage in 300 is a hunting machine. We currently have 2 Savage 99s; one in 300 and one in 30-30. The 300 will group 1.5" or better @ 100 yards and velocity on average is about 150 fps behind a 308 with a similar bullet and length of barrel....

For the light-medium load, the best I found was 7.9 Power Pistol with a 210 cast. Out of the 5.5 Ruger it averages 1079 with an extreme spread of 22 fps. This load burns very clean and groups at or under 2" @ 25 yards. Never shot it indoors but...

I used Penn Bullets for years in handguns when I was competing. I had tried a number of different bullets but Penn always gave the best accuracy. However I have no experience with their rifle bullets.

Thank you Bent Ramrod for the information, it is very helpful. One of my dream rifles was a Stevens Walnut Hill and maybe I backed into a version of it. :) How do you tell a 44 from a 417? I really appreciate the help.

Some time ago I came across a Stevens 44 chambered in .22 LR. The barrel had been changed and the name MS Risley was on the barrel. I did a little research and it indicated that Mr. Risley worked with Harvey Donaldson making dies and chambering...

I have two 30 Herretts (along with a 357), 7 TCU, and a 30-30; all are in 10". The 30 Herretts are easy to make cases for and using a small tubing cutter speeds the process tremendous. Once made the cases seem to last forever. I used the 7 TCU for...

I have a 32-20 barrel. They were popular in Hunter class in silhouette as they had light recoil. You shot 1/2 size targets to 100 yards so you did not need much power to knock them over. The 30 carbine cartridge is designed for more pressure so...
