Locks, both flint and cap, are best served by initially taken apart, the plate trued and honed, put back with a tiny drop of oil on all bearing surfaces. Sometimes moving contact surfaces such as the sear will function better if lightly honed. ...

A most diligent and righteous process, sir. It becomes second nature and it insures firearm longevity ... and peace of mind.

I had and just sold a CVA Scout V2 in .45-70 and have a CVA Hunter in .45-70 on order. The Scout V2 model has a 23" bbl, not their advertised 25" - it is 25", but only when the muzzle brake is screwed on, whereas the Hunter's bbl is a full 25".

I set my turrets up for 9mm and .38spl with lee carbide full size, expand, and seat dies, but just never liked the LFC die and use a regular taper crimp die instead. It's all good if it works good. :)

Yes, all that, but started as soon as the last shot of the day is taken by at the very least keeping that crud soft 'n' wet before the real gun cleaning takes place. I've seen folks at the range or woods take that last shot and immediately case the...

personally, i see no reason to complicate cleaning all manner of trad ML or cartridge guns that are fed real black powder. all it takes is discipline, plain tap water, and literally any kinda "gun oil" for the final lube. to me, anything else is...

almost all the offshore trad ML kits only need a screwdriver to stick together, then load up and make go bang (well, maybe). to make the gun look better, and add some protection, requires sanding and sealing the stock at the least. lots of times...

aside from the fallacy of "seasoning" steel, lotsa different takes on cleaning a traditional muzzleloader. my take is simple - get at that BP residue ASAP no matter what. this means as soon as the last shot is taken for the...

Gato Feo is an original 19th century bullet lube formula. I, and others, have tried different tallows and all did not work as well as mutton or lamb tallow. It is well worth brewing up, using, and fully enjoying. Some notes on Gato Feo by its...

having had a pair of henry singles, .223 and .357, i would more than hesitate to buy another - for me it was a terrible trigger, even with the "trigger fix" that i accomplished for each. i just took receipt of a CVA scout v2 in .45-70 and the...

i have one, given to me by a friend, a remington 1-1/2 roller that probably started out as a "cadet rifle" that was maybe a .32 or .38, then it got reamed out to .45-70, hammer was replaced, and someone "sporterized" the stock. i need to get off my...
