Bob, I would pick up those Hornady .405 cases. I don't know if Hornady will make another run of them or not. That is fine bass for the .40-70. Trimming those cases is not a problem with one of these little saws...

The problem using a hard lube wad/cookie is you will find the lube between the two card wads about the same diameter as it was before fired. The same goes with a grooved bullet that spun off. I have picked both remnants on top of the snow and...

Locks, both flint and cap, are best served by initially taken apart, the plate trued and honed, put back with a tiny drop of oil on all bearing surfaces. Sometimes moving contact surfaces such as the sear will function better if lightly honed. ...

I clean at the range after the last shot fired. When I get home I clean it again till the patch comes out as white as it went in and leave it in the cleaning rack over night and run a tight patch through again the next morning and recoil and put it...

I had and just sold a CVA Scout V2 in .45-70 and have a CVA Hunter in .45-70 on order. The Scout V2 model has a 23" bbl, not their advertised 25" - it is 25", but only when the muzzle brake is screwed on, whereas the Hunter's bbl is a full 25".

I set my turrets up for 9mm and .38spl with lee carbide full size, expand, and seat dies, but just never liked the LFC die and use a regular taper crimp die instead. It's all good if it works good. :)

Yes, all that, but started as soon as the last shot of the day is taken by at the very least keeping that crud soft 'n' wet before the real gun cleaning takes place. I've seen folks at the range or woods take that last shot and immediately case the...

Bob, For 600 and even the 1K the .40-70 will do the job. I'm starting to go back to the .40-70 as well as the .40-65. My 81 year old bones are starting to tell me to leave the .50 rest :D I will start shooting more on this side of the big muddy...

I used the .40-70 Shiloh for several years for the gong shoots and it has won me a few dust collector's when I started that game but changed to the .50-90 and .45-90 and both out did the .40-70. The .50 was my go to rifle it is the most reliable...

Tom I use the 2F OE in my Shiloh .50-90 and .2" compression is where the ladder loads make some very nice round 5 shot groups and that falls pretty close for all the calibers I shoot. It will also have a spot with heavy compression also. You can...
