gpidaho replied to a thread Remington in trouble? in Our Town
I can see why their sales are slumping. I bought two Remington products last year, an 1895 Cowboy 45-70 that had chunks missing from the rifling and the second version of the R-51 9mm pistol that is the worst pistol I've ever owned. Look at all the...

Like TNsailorman, I enjoy the time spent reloading as much as the time spent shooting. In retirement, I have plenty of time to use a single stage or turret press. I owned a Dillon 550 B for several years but sold it to a fellow Booliteer. I just...

I'm not flybyjohn but my 45-70 barrel was MUCH worse than the one shown in OP and they wouldn't fix it. You could see the missing CHUNKS of the lands just looking down the bore. Gp

I'm very new to black powder loading but I have a few rifles I believe I could use for that purpose. For starters, Handi rifles in 357mag, 444 Marlin and 45-70 Gov. For cartridge reloading, how important is it to use compression dies? If you...

I had a Remlin 45-70 Cowboy who's barrel had even larger CHUNKS missing. It was sent back to Remington for barrel replacement and all I got back was the same rifle-barrel and a note that said they saw no reason for complaint. They sent back a target...

A couple months ago, I bought the basic Ruger 556 AR from Bud's for $449. I would think that might be a good place for the young man to start. Mine shoots very well for a base model. That way he'd have money left in his pocket. Just my thought. Gp

Off the path a bit here but it is surprising just how far a barrel will swage down a SOFT bullet. We had two look alike Handi rifles at the range and S.I.L. Dave accidentally fired a 357mag round in a 30-30. Split the case end to end but no further...

It's the minimum wage help that the box stores hire that keep sending me to Mid-South or Midway for my supplies. Then you ask them a logical question and they clearly don't know what you're talking about they act like you're the idiot.

Taylor; It takes a little practice to get the NOE nose sizing down and I would suggest that you size the nose down to -.001 or - .002 before you coat the bullets. Although PC is tough as nails it scrapes easily so best to only size .001 or so after...

Eastwood's Mirror black is my second favorite powder next to their clear. The mirror black does work better when applied with the electrostatic gun than shake and bake but then, most powders do. Clear powder or a combination of clear and a pinch...

I think for the smoothest coat that clear PC is by far the best. I add just a pinch of green or blue so it's easy to see they've been coated at a glance. You will get a very pretty coat that way. My clear powder is Eastwood. I highly recommend it....

I've got powder that's at least three years old (Cardinal) and I've seen no problems with it. It's kept in the house and it is pretty arid here in SW Idaho so it may store better here than some other areas of the country. Gp

+one on the NOE tools. I have both the gas check seating die and seven of the expanders. It would take a pretty messed up mould to throw a bullet I can't get a tight, flat check on. Well worth the price. Gp
