Nice range. I live in town now and can’t have a set up like that. I do have about a 24 yd. section in the house I can shoot through though. I have to drive a short distance out of town to shoot further, so I envy your set up. Very nice!

With the throat filled like that you may be good to go at those speeds wth air cooled ww with the checks on. I had good accuracy in my 35 whelen with air cooled ww at 1800 FPS. After that I had to heat treat it to maintain accuracy in the 2400 to...

35 shooter replied to a thread Gas piston longevity in AirGuns
So an average of a piston every 3 years. Did they lose power slowly over time, or just kind of go out all at once?

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t realize the pistons had been around that long for sure. Also surprised it could potentially out last a spring. I guess i’ve been comparing them in my mind to the pistons that raise and lower a hatch back car door...

Iíve only gotten back into air guns over the last couple of years, so the gas piston guns were new to me. Springers and pneumatic pumps and of course co2 are all I knew of as a kid and young adult. My question for those that have followed air...

Reloader 7 powder works great in my SKS's. I use 21gr in mine. That load just cycles the bolt reliably.

Welcome to the site! Are you using gas checks? What lube? Are you sizing your boolits? What size? I'd size from .001"-.002" over bore groove size. What powders and charges have you tried?

I have a 3 1/2Ē bbl. bond arms thatís very comfortable shooting standard 45 colt loads in. Havenít shot a bbl. shorter than that though. I would love to have the defender to go with my 2 snake slayers....yeah, I like my derringers lol.

I like the idea of my 1-12 twist, 35 Whelen with heavy, long boolits for really big or angry stuff. Mine stabilizes the Lyman 280gr 358009 or the NOE 35 Thumper, 310gr 360-310 FN and shoots great. It still does very good with boolits down to 200gr....

Try a low velocity/low pressure charge to see if it improves. I normally test all new molds at low velocity first with like 10gr of Unique. If you cant make it work at low velocity, it wont work at all.

When tumble lubing pistol bullets, I only lube once and that's after they've been sized.

Congrats on a beautiful rifle. I can understand your excitement as those original Henry’s are works of art....eye candy for sure. I’d love to have one in 45 colt or44/40. Hope it shoots as good as it looks for you!

My 1377 with the stock pistol bbl. runs out of front sight to hold above the rear for elevation just a few feet shy of 100yds. When sighted in with a 6 o’clock hold for 25 yds. Still have plenty of elevation left I could dial into the rear sight...

Go back and do it right. You should have multiple samples to check your measurements.

I've never bothered to anneal case necks with 35 Whelen reformed from commercial 30-06 or 270 brass. I get about 30 firings on my cases and only toss out after trimming 4 times.
