Arcticap, you seem to have gone through this in detail. When I get time, I'm going to have to study this and add the chamber depth/distance from rifling factor to sorting ammo. Just from what I've read so far, I get the impression that the ammo...

Goatwhiskers, I wish you and your wife every blessing, not just now but for all time. Let us commend her to the Mercy of God. I was just reading on this precise subject and thought I'd offer just a thought or two. Once we are separated by this...

I started out with the Lyman 429215, cast of WW's, gas checked, sized and lubed with 50/50 or whatever was in the lube-sizer over 20gr of 2400. They worked well in a Marlin or a Super Blackhawk and accounted for many deer over the years. These...

I'd shoot it first and see what results you get. You may already be home free - wouldn't that be nice. You didn't mention whether the rifling is broached, buttoned, cut or hammer forged. If it's button rifling or hammer forged, the bore should be...

I experimented with the Lee 255gr RNFP with a snoot-full of 2400 and also Lil Gun. I don't recall the max charge weights I stopped at, but I continued increasing until the primers looked like factory ammo. The 1911 I tried this in has enough slide...

Back when I was young and indestructible, I lucked into a used Mossberg 44 for $50 - and there wasn't anything wrong with it! Somebody didn't know what they had. I located an unused cantilever mount for it with a 6x Weaver and never looked back....

WOOHOO!! This thread is gold! Going into my recipes file, yessiree! Rev Al, great photos! Makes me want fire up a pan of bacon, pintos and onions. I have no recipes that are materially different from those here, but a trick I learned for...

I once owned a Chinese AK and what accuracy I was able to wring from that particular one was dinner plate sized groups at 100 yards with mil spec ammo. Not all of them are the same, though, and I figure any rifle is worth a good going over to see...

I don't see a thing wrong with your technique or results other than winding up with a boolit 10 grains heavier and .002 smaller than what the mold was labeled for. Looks to me that the mold may have been mislabeled and you got a .356-124gr mold...

yeahbub replied to a thread 38-55 rounds in Leverguns
It's an easy straight case to load that's cheaper on powder and lead than other nostalgic calibers like .45-70. It has a reputation for accuracy and was very popular in the 19th century as a target round out to about 300 yards or so and IIRC, I read...

Thank you, Outpost75 and M-Tecs for letting experience and learning speak. Quite right about checking the pedigree of one's information and not just swallowing what may be coming via PC filtration. There are many who are apt to hurriedly accept...

yeahbub replied to a thread Spray case lubes in Cast Boolits
My favorite is ordinary store brand pan spray coating. A light spritz over a tub of cases, mix them up well to distribute it evenly and they'll size easily. Some percentage (1/4 - 1/3) of the cases should be vertical to get a little inside the case...

yeahbub replied to a thread Rossi 357 in Leverguns
I had the opportunity to mess with several Rossi '92's in .357 Mag. All 4 of them would cycle .38 Spl with ease but were catchy with .357's loaded to recommended OAL. This problem seemed to be somewhat lessened by using .38 Spl cases loaded to .357...

Has anyone used one of those induction "hot plate" units as seen on TV for this? They are advertised as having precise temperature control.

The chambers in my Pietta are .447, so .446 would be okay for clean chambers. I'd be more comfortable with a heel driving band at .444 for sure entry in fouled chambers. Best would be a 2-diameter sizing die, bored through at .442 and counterbored...

I tried WW RB's in my .50 ML and they worked okay on the day they cast, since they were still soft. A week later and they were noticeably harder to load as age hardening made itself felt and I had to use thinner and thinner patch material to get...
