Those numbers are for a max load in a 5 inch barrel. If you are using a shorter barrel for carry you will not be getting that much velocity. It should still be more than adequate though.

I am using a Lyman 4500. It has a heater, but since I use NRA 50-50, it doesn't get plugged in. I use RCBS sizing dies. I like the hole pattern of the RCBS dies better. It allows me to do a better job of picking which lube grooves I want lube in.

I recently did a test for full power loads(not +P) using 200 grain boolits in my 45ACP 1911 pistols. More as a proof of concept than anything I will ever use frequently. Accuracy was very good and the power was definitely there. No more accurate...

Where is the primer getting the hole? If in the center, it is usually a too sharp firing pin. Occasionally you can get a batch of primers that have thin cups. These will puncture no matter the pressure. I had that problem with a batch of Remington...

My current pet load is very nearly identical. 4.0 grains of either Bullseye or Titegroup with a Lyman 356402 120 grain tc boolit. Only difference is I shoot them as cast since they drop right at .357 for me. I either tumble lube or run them...

I have thee Lee Classic Cast Turret press. I never had one of the three hole presses. I really like the fourth hole for an extra die. It allows more flexibility in seating/crimping options that way( I seat and crimp in separate steps). I like the...

A lot of information and opinions in this thread. I was expecting that. I have no direct experience with bears of any kind. I really don't have any desire to have such. If I am ever forced to go into country where there are a good supply of large...

My bench rest rifle wears a scope with 1/8" clicks. I need the precision for groups on target at 200 yards. I also have a rifle that has mil dot and the appropriate click settings. It is on a 308 silhouette/hunting type rifle. Works fine for that....

The worst thing I can see happening is for the boolit to fail to exit the barrel. You would then need to drive it out. You would then know you had to increase the powder charge. People used to have that happen fairly often when going for the...

Check out the Hodgdon load data site. They have loads for CFE Pistol for just about all cartridges and boolit weights. The posted velocities are usually pretty close to correct. If you like higher velocities, this powder gives some extra speed...

Makes me sad to hear about faulty Remington brass. It is my favorite brand to reload. Easy to size and a bit thinner in wall thickness than most others. It works a treat for me when loading wadcutters. Never had a Remington case be hard to insert...

tazman replied to a thread Well, here I go in Cast Boolits
I have tried many different boolit weights in the 38 special and the ones that shoot the best for me in my S&W revolvers are the 148 wadcutters, the lyman 358311, and the150 grain SWC boolits from either Lyman, NOE, or RCBS. For target work, any...

I am not going to give specific data but will tell you that the accuracy you seek can be achieved. I have three 9mm handguns that can do exactly what you ask. Two are Springfield Range Officer 1911 pistols and one is a S&W 929 revolver. All three...

Try looking at the products from NOE or some of the other premium mold producers. The NOE molds drop the size they claim and are larger than the minimum size needed to do the job. For instance, most of the 9mm molds are listed as .358 and drop at...

I tried out a near full power load for 200 grain(nominal) cast today using CFE Pistol for propellant. I had checked the Hodgdon data site and saw claims for 1050 fps and up to 1145fps using CFE Pistol with standard or below pressures. I decided to...

With 9mm in particular, bore dimensions are all over the map. I own 9 different 9mm handguns and have 3 distinctly different size bores. I am fortunate that the chambers on all of them are generous enough to accept the boolits sized for the largest...

tazman replied to a thread Stupid Things I Do in Cast Boolits
The issue here is the two powders have very different densities. If you use it, you will need to weigh each charge in a scale to have any idea what you are throwing. I like the idea of skimming off the top. The next best solution would be to mix...
