Ear protection is expected. The problem comes when the ear protection is sufficient for a rifle without a brake but the guy next to you has a brake that directs all that noise an blast right at you. I use double ear protection, but it is still not...

Of course, a lot of the responses, including my own, will be effected by personal experiences with individual handguns. Any time a person has issues with one, they won't have a lot good to say about one. I can only talk about the pistols I have...

I own two 1911 pistols in 45acp and one in 9mm. As good as the 45acp pistols shoot, the 9mm is more accurate. It is also VERY light on recoil and cheaper to shoot than the 45s. My 1911 in 9mm is my most accurate pistol. Every bit as accurate as my...

Smith & Wesson for revolvers. My experiences with other brands have not been consistent like S&W. Springfield XD in any caliber for pistol followed by Beretta 92 for 9mm. Either one will work well for 9mm. The XD series works in all calibers. I...

When I loaded the swaged hollow base wadcutters backwards in 38 special, the results were pathetic from both an accuracy and penetration standpoint. When I did the same thing using my own cast version, acccuracy was much better, quite usable in...

I had access to range scrap for several years but my source went away. While I was doing that, I smelted outside, using a smaller size stainless steel cooking pot/sauce pan on top of a camp stove that used the short, fat bottles of propane that you...

Anything you add or remove from your muzzle will effect the way the barrel vibrates during the shot. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes not. I have a 308 Savage with a threaded barrel that has a pair of thread protectors on it. When they got a...

I crimp in a separate step. When seating the boolit, I check the depth so it comes out where I want it in the groove, then crimp with the next step. Many of the boolits I use have generous crimp grooves. It makes this part easier. I could use a...

My touch is not good enough to get a "feel" for a consistent crimp. I nearly always use boolits with a crimp groove. I set things up so I can bottom out the press and with the longest case, it will crimp to the top of the groove. That way with the...

If you have an alloy that responds to heat treatment, yes it does. The hardness varies depending on the alloy in question. Also the time it takes to reach full hardness also varies by alloy.

That .005 should not be a problem for a 38 special. The cartridge pressure is too low for that amount to cause a dangerous pressure spike. Particularly with standard loads.

When I was loading pistol with 800x, I used an RCBS Uniflow measure. When I fill the chamber I would tap the measure a couple of times then dispense the powder. Worked consistently that way. Even the small loads for 9mm worked well. At that point...

Some states which only allowed deer hunting with shotgun slugs are now opening things up to rifles with pistol caliber cartridges. The idea being they are not so dangerous at longer distances if you get a ricochet or a missed shot. The rifles allow...

The power went off here about 3PM. It just now came back on so not such a bad deal. Pictures and stories from all over the area about white outs, power poles down, and cars in the ditches everywhere. Winter has arrived with a vengeance.

We had an ice storm today followed by high winds. Now a power outage. The winds are supposed to continue for another day. I wonder how long it will take the power company to get the power back on. Supposed to be fairly cold tonight.
