Bazoo replied to a thread when to lubricate? in Boolit Lube !
You can lube either way. Most people lube before sizing, but that smears line all over the nose of the bullet when sizing. If you size first and then lube, it'll be cleaner.

For a short piece of dowel, if it's small enough, you can chuck it in a drill and spin it. While it's spinning touch a pencil to the end and it'll give you a centered ring.

It can be formed from a few different things. But those cases are nearly as expensive as 7 STW brass. The 7 STW is usually a cartridge that one does not shoot a lot of so I'd probably just buy a hundred STW cases and call it good. I know that...

I believe those pieces would be called threaded ferrules. Wingers idea is real close to where I'd start. If you got the extra parts already, you could use shotgun adapters for the female ends and the threads from a shotgun brush for the male ends....

Bazoo replied to a thread 2nd attempt at casting in Cast Boolits
You should make a note of the conditions and results. Just start a log on a sheet of paper. You'll be able to go back and review your notes so you don't make the same mistakes later on.

Thanks for all the replies. Bmortell, In the Lyman 47th, 30-06 cast data lists H-4895, 4064, and 4350 for slow powders for bullet 311284, but has nothing similar in the 49th edition. Likewise, with bullet 31141 w748 is listed in the older...

Bmortell , both the 47th and 49th list IMR4895 in all jacketed bullet weights, except for the 220 grain in the 49th. Is it another powder you're thinking of, or another manual?

So, as some might know, I recently acquired a 30-06 and have been gathering the needed things to load for it. I've been researching powders and data as well. I use a Lyman 49th as my standard go to book, but I have several others, including a...

I'll guess that with a mold casting bullets that small that the mold is not getting hot enough. You may have to run it as fast as you can to keep the temps up. If it is new you may have to heat cycle it 3 or 4 times too.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I hadn't thought about concentricity, but I had thought of reduced case stretching. The extra step doesn't bother me, as I most often shoot cast anyway. I'll have to do some experimenting.

Sounds like you're running the lead too hot. Control the mould temp through cadence and sprue size, not lead temp. I heat my moulds by resting them in the top of the pot so they are partially in the lead probably 5 minutes or more. It will cause...
