okietwolf replied to a thread Odd lube choice? in Boolit Lube !
I was just thinking about what was being used back then. I believe he was referring to the 30's and his family had a small dairy farm. So, I figured they were using scraps of what was there to make lube with. Yes, it was bees wax he was talking...

I just have fat thumbs guys.... supposed to be 50/40/10. Although, I have seen a bunch of 40/40/10/5/5 with all sorts of odd stuff added.

I was chatting with an old, old, odd (98 years odd) pal last evening, and he said he and his dad used to hunt with an old 45/70 paper patched. They would use bag balm as the lube cookie. "Just enough wax to stiffen the balm up a bit", and he added,...

I've seen lots of stuff from auto wax, Wintergreen oil to stp or transmission fluid, I think I'll stick with basics.

I'm working up a 34" barrel 45/120. I'm leaning towards the multi mix crisco substitute from above with animal fats, beeswax and maybe some sort of oil or lanolin. I was given some no longer needed nipple creme that is marked as 100% lanolin just a...

I've looked at the single shot exchange if that's what your referring to, and the issue I got seemed to be sponsored by SPG...so I'll take that with a grain of salt.

I've been reading up on lube recipes for BP cartridges, and find a lot of people using a 40-40-10 mix of Crisco beeswax and olive oil or tallow. I know Crisco is a veggie based product, and then adding tallow or lard would add sticky I guess....

I'll stick this in the handcannon category A Traditions .54 caliber muzzleloading buckhunter 9" barrel. 80gr FFg and a round ball does one hell of a job. A couple groundhogs have gotten too close....and found themselves fertilizing entire corn...

I was carrying mine in a small Ziploc bag in the patch box . That was a fumble of all sorts. Lol. This is cheaper and potentially more solid than the plastic box for 12.00 I've seen out there

I'm not sure what others are doing to carry their fragile globe sight inserts to and from the range, but this is what I came up with. Simply a discarded magnetic business card flipped magnet side out and placed into a business card pocket carrier....

We in Ohio just got the 410 slugs reapproved a few years back....since they are ballistically similar to a rifle, more so than a 20 gauge or larger

At the muzzle it's tight at 452, the chamber end is 454 at the top of lands. Slides into the chamber very easily to the base of the bullet as wrapped. It drops into the muzzle about 1/2 the length of the bullet when wrapped in the onion skin paper...
