You seem to have done much research on the 45-120, welcome to the club. The wads, I cut my own with a punch wad cutter I got from Buffalo Arms co. Bullet pre patch diameter, relies on your bore dimensions and what works for your individual barrel. ...

I don't know about it since the "move" to Latrobe...but Iron City said they would never use aluminum cans. That was in the 80's. I don't drink beer, but a magnet check seems logical anyway.

I know this is a Colt thread....but I once slapped 5 .451 rounds wrapped in a bit of paper in a 45/120 with a grease cookie and 55 grains of FFg and a mag pistol primer. At 50 yards it left a pretty much 1.5" hole. Lol

My walking around gun is a little different, mine is a savage 24 plastic stocked in 20 gauge under 22 magnum. Not really heavy, rather accurate, and covers a wide range of circumstances.

I'm assuming the base down it to help minimize potential boolit damage, are you not concerned with potential grease migration to the powder?

Fast Ronnie....I can do the wood work, not so much on the leather. Besides, my rifle rounds would need quite the wide belt. Kev18..I quite like that idea. All together one place, and could put in the flexible wipe rod as well.

I personally do a bit of both. My measure drops thru a 24" tube with a choke in the bottom and then I rap on the case with a wooden file handle for 15 seconds or so. Once the powder seems to not settle any more then I place the over powder wad and...

I've never tried it, but an old timer from a club I used to be a member of made his drop tube from a 30" piece of steel fuel line, with an Sbend in it. Not enough of a bend to stop the flow, but to slow it down. He claimed he could dump the black...

I'll try that when these get to make their thunder sir. I hadn't thought of it. On this set I'm using two lube wads cut from about a .112" pour, so close to a quarter inch of grease. It's a homebrew lube, and I think maybe a might to hard. It snaps...

I have a 34" barrel 45/120 Quigley model. It's fun, but for the cost ( bought new) I proboobly would have saved the extra and gotten a more renowned copy, in a normal chambering. I've had mine 14 or so years now and am still waiting on the heavens...

The crimps are very light, enough so that the slugs still spin, but are impossible to pull by finger alone.

Ok. Here goes before the range trip. 45/120 with 116.1gr (by weight) Fg 520gr .446 slug wrapped with 25 pound tracing paper to .4505 midship and .457 at base. About a quarter inch of grease cookie.

I was chatting with an old, old, odd (98 years odd) pal last evening, and he said he and his dad used to hunt with an old 45/70 paper patched. They would use bag balm as the lube cookie. "Just enough wax to stiffen the balm up a bit", and he added,...

I'm working up a 34" barrel 45/120. I'm leaning towards the multi mix crisco substitute from above with animal fats, beeswax and maybe some sort of oil or lanolin. I was given some no longer needed nipple creme that is marked as 100% lanolin just a...
