Warm is the key, hot was not a wise move on my part. But hey, i tested it for science! and failed miserably... I generally coat 15-20k at a time, so i take the trays out of the oven and dump on a bench to cool, as i don't have enough trays to let...

Don't try and coat them too hot either, i had the idea of coating ones that were still a bit too hot from the oven and the sealed bottle i used to coat, puffed up when shaking. Not dangerous, just messy if it did pop from the acetone vapors. I...

You have be well and truly beat on moulds, i'd have maybe 15, with a few double ups. I do have you beat on lead ingots, i actually don't know how much is there, but it has to be around 10t by now. Sadly i don't have enough dirt to be allowed...

hehe my wife says i'm a weirdo all the time too, that and a butt head. Her mum had colitis, but the doctors did confirm that it was the cause of her intestinal pain and associated "runs". Diet and a CPAP machine actually fixed her issues. I...

I'm from Brisbane, .au so we never get cold, we get hot and humid weather, most of the time. I have never had issues of drying too fast. If i'm after better coating, as in lube grooves, i add my 5ml of coating, then 2ml of pure acetone. It makes the...

I second the sniffing too much solvent :) I have been doing a lot of casting (a lot for me at least 60 odd thousand) the last week too, more time than i'd like sniffing acetone fumes. Glad it's not MEK, that stuff is nasty, i wonder if it indeed...

It will be about 4.2 to 4.5 kg for 500. It's indeed warm here, I'll try not to be cooked to a crisp :)

I generally don't size before coating, but I have done the same, coat once then size, then more coats on stubborn over sized moulds.

Soooooooooooo..... I had some spare time between cooking, coating and casting over the last few days, i have been asked how thick hi-tek actually is by a mad mate, i really wasn't sure, i heard a thou per coat, but never knew for sure. I had some...
