A friend had a Norwegian 20 gauge RB that I shot a few times. It functioned very well. Shot right to the sights at ~35-40 yds, but whipping that heavy barrel around to lead a flying bird would have been tough.

I believe there is a wildcat called the .40 Krag, which is the normal length Krag shell blown out straight. You could still use your .40-70 dies for sizing and seating; might need a taper crimp die if you want the boolit held tightly. JES might...

Ditto on the little Lee for big cases. It seems to center better on the outside deburring step than the RCBS type.

I have one of those moulds. Got a 1-1/2” 100-yd group with my Douglas-rebarreled Krag rifle with 18gr 4759 at ~1550 ft/sec using Lino-WW range scrap. Got a lot of 2-1/2”-3-1/2” groups with other loadings and powders. Pretty much came to the...

Ken, didn’t I give you a bunch of old Lakeville Arms literature at the last Denver Gun Show? IIRC, it had a lot of that Prot-X-Bore and Jugular stuff in there.

I follow Dutch Schoultze’s advice—tighten the micrometer thimble down as tight as you can. No “feather touch” here. That’s the patch thickness the ball will see when it is pressing the patch against the rifling, tightly but short of tearing it.

You might (assuming that your dies are .22–6mm size) check with Corbin’s and see if he can make you a punch that fits the shellholder slot in your ram. For bigger bullets a solid ram, threaded at the top, would be preferable. An adapter that...

I recall seeing a picture of an actual Stevens Maynard in one of Grant’s books. He speculated that it was a toolroom model made at Stevens after they took over Massachusetts Arms, to assess the possibility of manufacturing them at Stevens’ factory....

If the excess brass is 1/4” or more, I use a tubing cutter for most of it. Then it’s over to the Universal expander and then the case trimmer. If I have a file/trim die, a hacksaw cut and filing the end smooth.

In the 70s, Jensen’s Custom Ammunition used to have bins full of that ammo, mostly unpackaged in bulk. I recall the rims said WCC 60 and R A (forget date). Loaded with a cute little FMP pointed boattail, smeared with lacquer, and some very fine...

I shoot a percussion Sharps replica, Gallagher replica, an original Maynard and a Parker-Hale Volunteer. The Sharps is especially critical, as the cap flash has to go through two right angles and penetrate the back of a paper cartridge to fire. ...

Rodney Storie sells casting sets for the Stevens Tip-Up rifle action. You might see if he has extra castings for the barrel wedge and button. The pivot pin would be best turned and threaded to fit. The wedge casting will need to be spotted and...

I had a partial large, old can of 4831 with rust from the inside of the can mixed in with the powder. The powder was otherwise dry and odorless. The inside of the can was rust speckled, but not rusted through. I picked a nice breezy afternoon,...

I can’t imagine this happening with a Ruger, but some of the cheaper Italian clones (the leftovers that are rejected by the name-brand importers and are sold for cheep by the No-Name-os) sometimes have a poor hammer fit against the rear of the frame...

Properly-sized mops on short handles are good for drying chambers after wet patching after firing a black powder cartridge in a match. Wet chambers tend to lengthen the cases on firing. Also, I find a .38 or .32 mop is perfect for getting the...
