IIRC, there was a guy named Bob Roller who made extra-thick sprue plates for Lyman SC moulds. Don't know if he’s still in business now, but you might do a search.

Looks like a Yankee mould to me, with handles upgraded with Lee wood and ferrules. Not a bad idea, actually. Original Yankee handles were pretty much straight dowels, rounded on the bottom ends, and held to the mould tangs with a circle of wire....

No doubt Ideal made them, since they made a #3 tool for .25-21 and .25-25. I have the tong tool but have never seen the accompanying drive in/out FLS die.

A friend and I used to shoot “birdshot .22’s” as kids a lot. These were the kind with the shotgun crimp in the brass. Pretty pointless exercise in a rifled bore, as the rifling spun the shot and the centrifugal force coming out the muzzle put...

Sorry, thought you were talking about the loading tool. I use my #5 measure all the time for BPCR loads. Most charges stay within 0.5 gr, can get closer by judicious use of the knocker.

I used mine, with the accompanying integral-handle Ideal 457124 mould, for my Garrett Sharps carbine in .45-70. It neck-sized the shells, sized and seated the boolits, re- and de- (after I made a replacement for the missing punch) capped the...

The factory didn't checker the 23s. The fleur-de-lis checkering was a very popular custom style. Nice job, too.

It’s at moments like those that you’re glad you kept your messy old hand gear change lathe, instead of upgrading to a nice, modern, convenient quick-change gearbox. You’ll be a long time finding “30” on the plate on a QC box when you want to make...

The real driver, leave us face it, is cheap, giveaway money; more abundant all the time. On the other hand, there is only a finite number of discontinued items, whether they be acreage, Van Gogh paintings or Lyman 310 sets. It only stand to...

A little WD-40 on some 000 steel wool should get the surface rust off the guide rods. Some sewing machine oil on the rods and the lever pivot screw and you should be good to go. The return spring looks OK to me. All it has to do is hold the lever...

A friend left me a couple Low Walls and a Colt SAA In .38-40, with a couple moulds and a Winchester loading tool, when he died. It was the only “hyphenated” 1873/1892 Winchester caliber I had no previous experience with. They are accurate...

With files, you need skill, which comes from practice. Lots and lots of practice. If you can get a chunk of metal and some spotting compound, practice filing on that until it just slides through your cylinder window and the filed surfaces are...

The Ideal #4 and #6 tools with integral chamber and boolit mould neither resized nor neck sized, but merely crimped the standard boolit (produced by the mould) on the neck of the case. The Ideal #3 (and the more modern 310) had separate...

That is a pretty gun, all right! You should be able to use the shells without resizing next time. If the case mouths are properly chamfered, they may not need belling either. The expanded cases might need a grain or so more powder to seat the...

Congratulate yourself, GF, on being able to spot value where those around you only see junk. Better test of basic smarts than being “woke” any day of the week. Gun shows now have their semi-permanent “stores” where the tableholder runs through...
