That is the crux of the matter. We can have poor quality bullets or bullets unsuited to the barrel twist with excellent ES and SDs yet give poor accuracy. Conversely we can have good or excellent bullet and "high" ES and SDs that give excellent...

Army tests showed that a practiced person could fire the Springfield breech loader at a rate of 12 to 13 times a minute, Interesting manual fgd135. We see the above also in the Army's Manuals. However that rate of fire with a M1873 Carbine or...

The 45 ACP is a really good cartridge with which to Learn The Ropes On for autopistol reloading. Pressures are docile, barrel twist rates are optimized for the bullets being used, and the 45 ACP is VERY lead-friendly. Most 45 ACP platforms are...

I just last week installed a Pachmayr Gripper round-butt J-frame set on a 1933-made S&W Regulation Police example that came my way. The answer is YES, they will fit perfectly. This same set fit perfectly on a very early 1903 Hand Ejector x 6" that...

I've only had that happen to round balls that I cast long ago from Pure Lead. As I understand it, pure lead will oxidize much quicker than lead with a bit of Tin in it. So, now when I cast RB, I use a alloy of near pure with 0.5% Tin. In the...

I wonder what happens with the modern substitute powders? I have no knowledge of the detonation rate of that fake powder. I guess if you overload one, you will be notified by parts of the gun leaving the area at high velocity.

A question for the metallurgists in the group. Forging steel with a coal forge adds carbon content to the steel as it is forged. Would the same happen with a propane forge? If it does indeed add carbon to metal by forging, would wrought iron be...

The X-ray lead is so pure I doubt you will need to flux it, assuming it doesn't have sheetrock stuck to the back. The WW will need a bit of fluxing, but the grease on them does a bit of it all by itself. The worst ever is roofing sheet lead, LOTSA...

I've been shooting both the M1 and the M14/M1A since '64. The Army let me shoot lots of both. I also have owned several of each. I now own 2 M1As and no M1s. Absolutely nothing "wrong" with the M1 that the M1A does "fix" IMHO.
