    I had one mosin split the receiver... from the look of the metal it had a micro crack from the factory and age weakened it to the point it let go... gun dealer got that one back and I picked the next nicest one on the rack with matching numbers....

    Any extra hardness gained by quenching the ingots will be lost when they are re-melted for casting. As long as you remember or note the alloy nothing is changed. Quenching could cause water inclusion in the shrinking ingots that might cause...

    Thanks for the info, but I ordered several stems as replacements many years ago. At the (then) price I couldn't justify repairs. I did find that grinding a taper to the stem allowed easier use in small necks like 223.

    At .80/lb, any good lead, especially already in ingot form, is a real bargain. Especially if the scrapper will scan it and give you a read out.

    His comment about the yeast stopping... with the amount of sugar in that recipe the yeast probably reaches it max attenuation(alcohol content it can handle) pretty rapidly... and since it is all sucrose in one form or another the yeast will chew...
