I also have polished all my Lee sizing dies because they tend to have a rough edge transition at the entry cone to sizing cylinder section.

I too size after coating. If you continue to have problems make a nose punch and run them through tail first.

If this is going to be an ongoing smelting operation I advise you to make a dedicated setup. We use a cutoff propane tank surrounded by an insulated furnace wall. A weed burner fires underneath the pot which is set up on some bricks. Start the melt...

I made a similar tool for punching felt wads for bp revolvers several years ago. The only difference was my punch was cut off square without the counterbore and knife edge. The knife edge probably isn't needed as the material is sheared and not cut.

I found that chamfering the case mouth and using a Lyman M-die or a homemade expander button helps a lot to prevent scraping PC and lead off the bullet and exposing bare lead to the barrel. Pull a few of your bullets to see if that is your problem.

My Garand guy who has been through all the CMP armorer courses likes the white lithium grease. It seems to work well and is easy to see where you've applied it. The M1 is a rugged rifle but does like to be well lubed.

Buddy who sells range scrap ingots makes about $1/pound on e-bay and uses USPS priority mail boxes.

The Harbor Freight burner has no extra regulator. It can output 500,000 BTU/Hr because it connects directly to the bottle so it's 'regulated' at the propane vapor pressure of about 100 psi.

Lowest cost burner that I found was the Harbor Freight weed burner torch. Mine was about $15 on sale a few years ago. With up to 500,000 BTU/Hr it has the highest heat output also.

LPP are slightly shorter than LRP and the cup metal is thinner in the LPP. Generally pistol primers are more sensitive to impact.
