I've got 3 of them. 2 four-footers and a five-footer, had 3 different 4-wheel drive vehicles that might get into the back country or a rough spot in the 2-3 section (section + square mile) pastures to check cows or hunt elk. Used as jack, winch,...

There is a book by Bill Calfee - THE ART OF RIMFIRE ACCURACY that goes into extensive detail on what it takes for rimfire accuracy, probably more than most want to know. Amazon lists it and there is a Kindle version.

There are multiple publications on barrel drilling with some meant for the home shop. There was a set of VHS tapes that showed how to build a boring machine and bore and rifle a barrel. It was many years ago (VHS tapes?) and was from a magazine...

Better ammunition - my Henry .22's shoot MUCH better with quality standard velocity ammunition. Bulk 500 boxes go about 3 MOA at 100 yards. With CMP Aquila standard velocity, I can get under 2" with my 24" octagon-barreled Henry and its 4-12 Nikon...

I would try the .358, go smaller only if necessary, then just to .357 unless that does not work, go only as small as necessary for reliable chambering (plunk test).

At some point you will discover FEATHERWEIGHT Savage 99's (.300's, .308's, .243's....) and your affliction will become far more serious.

I have used the Lee chamfer tool, the 'standard' chamfer tool - Pacific, Herter's, RCBS. A herter's pocket swager - like the RCBS, and the RCBS power case prepper with their crimp reamer. Ordinary chamfer tools work fine, maybe a little advantage...

You might check the bird watcher sights for their binocular advice. I have an 8x42 Nikon Monarch 7 that I use most of the time. I do have a 10x50 Leupold that I keep for antelope. My wife uses an 8x32 Opticon, they are very handy and work quite...

I have an old Stith mount. It is very limited to what scopes will work in it and how you get the scope into the mount. Modern mounts - Weaver, Leupold, Redfield, Burris - are much friendlier for mounting and set-up. A Stith mount is a collector's...

Leverevolution Powder and the Hornady 165gr FTX bullet should get you there. Hornady 10th edition has data. Not really much difference between the 170 Speer(bc .297) and 165 Hornady (bc .310) in long range drop, The Leverevoltion powder does gain...

Weaver bases #19 for front and #14 for rear are correct for the 99. Leupold and older Redfield and Burris bases are also available using the Dovetail front and rear rings that are clamped between two screws and thus windage adjustable, a common...

It is very easy hear scary stuff here. PROPERLY fitted Crimp-on gas checks do not just 'fall-off' cartridges when seated below the case neck. Folks loading lead in the 300 Savage and 300 Winchester Magnum know this. Can it happen, I suppose,...
