+1 waco badgeredd displaced metal needs to move somewhere, one of the boattail accuracy theories is that the displace metal is not acting as an air resistant tail, but not very noticable 100 yards or less. One of the benefits of gas checks and...

MostlyLeverGuns replied to a thread Savage 99 date? in Leverguns
We have 3 Savage 99 243's, a Featherweight, my wife's antelope rifle, a 99C and a 99E. the Featherweight goes .75 MOA with most 90-100 bullets and AA3100 for 5 shots, the 99C does stay under MOA but haven't really fussed at it. The 99E is MOA,...

If the rifle is already drilled and tapped for a Weaver Rear base (Weaver #14), there is a relatively inexpensive Willams Foolproof Sight that will simply screw into the rear scope mount holes. I have drilled and tapped a few rifles, mostly...

I have not had bridging of 5744 in my Lee Perfect Powder Measure, but it is just good practice to keep a flashlight handy and look into EVERY case before bullet seating to check powder level. I do use 5744 in the 308 weekly(20-50 rounds), 18.5 gr...

Unless your Savage 99 is already drilled/tapped (D/T) for the Redfield 102L, I would look for a sight that that works with the two holes already D/T on the tang to the rear of the cocking indicator. There are sights made by Lyman, Redfield,...

Hawk Bullets will make custom weight bullets and does list a 270 grain spitzer. They would probably go to 300 or 325 grain in the .348 spitzer. Many of the custom mold makers require a fair sized flat nose for most customer designs, just the...

HawkBullets makes some jacketed spitzer bullets in .348, Hornady also makes a spitzer with the 'gummy' point that also works in the leverguns.

Handy to have. If you lack the 'right' diameter 'M' expanding die or NOE expanding plug. Also used to hold the NOE expanding plugs. Must be used carefully as it can (will) put a large flare on cases. Uniform case length is especially important...

For a small press that works well for revolver cartridges and short rifle(223,7.62x39), the Lee Pro 1000 would work well. I have two. I keep one setup for 38 Special and 357. Two separate and complete die/powder measures on two different turrets....

I believe situational awareness is the first step. My wife carries firearms for rattlers and is competent with most firearms. Getting her to SEE and LISTEN is the more difficult task. We live in a safe environment so it is easy to relax too much....

Case necks of 308 resized to 243 are thicker than most factory 243, though they normally are not 'too thick'. Lubing the interior case neck allows the case neck to slide over the expander button more easily, reducing stretching and making the...

I have reformed 308/7.62 Military to 243 many times. First I full length size/decap in a 308 die WITHOUT expanding the neck. I have used a 7-08 die as an intermediate step, again no neck expand, tho a 260 rem would probably work. I the run the...

I would check the throat size, if the throat is larger than .453,a larger bullet (or softer) would probably work better. I would also try a .454 diameter and/or a softer bullet.

Starline does make .375 Winchester, though pricey compared to fire-formed 30-30. I would anneal before and maybe after fire-forming. After fire-form and anneal I trim to uniform length, usually shortest case sets case length.

That should work on most any North American game. Elk(wapiti), moose(your elk?) for sure, large bears - OK, fine for all the smaller stuff. Should be fine for feral pigs, wild boar.
