One thing you didn't mention, once you start, only change one thing at a time! If you change lubes, only change the lube, if you change primers, only change the primer, etc. That way you truly know the cause of the result.

I generally keep targets scattered around in the cabin, on the reloading bench, some out in the shop, some on the floor of the pickup. About 3/4 of them actually have useful load information on them, the rest have received the "Oh, I'll remember...

FWIW - I have loaded compressed 40 gr Goex FFG in 44-40 cases (modern Starline) and bulged the cases slightly. They all fired fine, but that much compression is a lot of work. I dropped back to 38gr and am satisfied. Your only problem compressing...

The thought is that a lightly lubricated case allows the case to expand more evenly with less possibility of creating a thinned spot in the brass. Without actually testing its hard to tell if and how much it makes a difference. I do give is some...

I don't think it will come into play until you get over 100 yards. I am not sure if that fits with your "mild pistol loads" or not.

If you are going to sort the smaller lots weigh them and see how they compare to the major brands. I would add what ever weighed the same to the majors.

I have a magma mold that Erik modified to do HP. 10mm/40 cal. Was a 180 grain but now closer to 170 ish. I haven't tested expansion because to be honest it didn't matter to me. If it expanded then great. If not it no big deal. They functioned...
