My Spiller & Burr was damaged before I got it. It's a tough question as to how old this gun really is. "Knowledgeable people" (note the quotation marks) have told me they thought it is an original, but I think it's a great defarb job done by a...

How does that stretch the frame? It might bend the loading arm. Shooting over powered loads can loosen a brass frame, or damage the recoil shield.

I have a very old one. They're brass framed copies of a Whitney. Nice guns, you gotta keep the loads low due to the brass. Who makes the one you're looking at? Here's my Spiller & Burr above an original Whitney .36.

My take away on the article - I'm going to start carrying my Colt Navy loaded with .36 pure lead roundballs and practice at 70 yds. One shot, in the heart, while under fire. I think it was Wyatt Earp who said, "When you're in a gunfight, take your...

It looks like #2. I said OK, she hit the BUY button. The Black Hills, Badlands, etc are some of my favorite places on the planet, but I really should branch out. I do not like traveling but I like when I get there. A few years ago, while staying...

On my last 3 trips out there, we averaged 1800 miles. I was thinking that Rapid City would be a good base - everything is 2 hrs or less away. But, southern Utah looks great, and it might be the winner. We visited the Crazy Horse monument last...

We're tossing around two trip choices for this June: 1st: fly to, and stay in, Rapid City, SD. From there, visit the Badlands, Walls Drug, Deadwood, Custer State Park (love the Needles Highway), Devils Tower, Mt Rushmore, back to the Badlands...

Looks like there were more cap choices back in the day. From an old Colt Industries pamphlet: "Percussion caps are now made in sizes from nine to thirteen. Ten and eleven are the best numbers for the small and medium-sized arms, and twelve for...

For what it's worth....I have an original Remington New Model 1858 .44 that came with a spare Pietta cylinder that fits perfectly. My Pietta 1860 Army .44 is one of the smoothest, best handling revolvers that I own. Uberti's are great guns, too,...

Just curious - will they honor a warranty if they know that reloads were used?

You could weigh out an amount of powder and then determine if its volume is too much or too little, or you could determine the correct volume (amount) of the powder and then weigh it. I use a powder measure when loading black powder, for cap and...

I checked into the Hiya app and I might give it a try. I just have to find a 5 yr old to help me install it (I'm tech challenged).

Lately I've been getting calls from what I believe are telemarketers. The problem is they're speaking in what I think is Chinese. How do you mess with someone who doesn't speak English? One time I waited until it sounded like they wanted me to...

Here's "one of those questions" that I've always wondered about. What's involved in proof testing a firearm? Can proof testing actually weaken metal or cause damage to a firearm that might not be evident? I'm asking because of what happened.
