I'll be passing thru Raton on 7/12 and my old PPC buddies will be there as well. Haven't fired my boss yet so would love to meet any of you and my shooting buddy needs to shoot the buffalo with his C Sharps. I'll be in the Wood cabin, my real name...

Thanks, but I can embarrass myself adequately shooting righty, lol. I shoot a fair bit of trap but skeet is just an amusing diversion for me. One of my skeet guns is equally happy shot from either side and I can shoot a riot gun from either shoulder...

Great thread, OP! Been on my mind for the past few days, I think I need to dabble a bit with a 30WCF in the near future. To address your concern I think the only finicky thing about a 94 is shooting technique; more specifically bag placement. It's...

Found some boolits in there this morning so I won't have to fire up a pot right away. But it seems I have a couple of acres of weeds to subdue AFTER the tractor gets an oil change and I have a club skeet shoot Saturday morning. Not sure how I'll...

I dunno. The round barrel on a rifle balances better for me. I really like the balance of a 94 short rifle and octagonal barrel, tho.

Historically speaking IMR4895 is probably as close as we can get to the original DuPont .30 smokeless powder used in the 30WCF but it may actually be a bit slower. I think there are better powders today but have never felt the 30WCF was finicky. I...

My 1892 vacationed in WA this past summer, finally came home this past week. As expected John Taylor's workmanship looks great, had almost forgotten how slick this old 92 is. Only one problem; I was gathering ammo for today's range trip and all my...

Sorry to hear about your Remlin. I picked up a fairly new 45-70 Remlin rifle off the used gun rack and it is actually quite good. All I did was remove the cheap (short eye relief) scope and see-thru mounts and install a new Leopold scope in low...

Finally got my old rifles to the range! The 26gr load of Rx7 was the best load of the three, 26.5 and 27.0 groups opened up a bit. I don't shoot semi-buckhorn sights well anymore so was pretty impressed with the group. Shot @ 50 yds today; well...

Long ago I decided that I would pursue either the 45 Colt or the 44 (or the 43 as I prefer to call it). I figured there wasn't much point in chasing after both of them but some day I'll break that promise to myself. I love the 45 Colt but an old...

Sounds like a lot of gun for the money but that seems to be the rule with Krags. I think the Krag milsurps helped keep a generation of gunsmiths busy and the one I saw was quite attractive as well. Nice walnut stock with excellent workmanship,...

He touches on the 44 Mag (and 44 Spl) in his "Shooting Leverguns of the Old West" and his reasons why he didn't feel it had any connection to the old west. I always got the impression he is a fan of the 44 Spl but since I chose the 45 over the 43...

Actually read that about the 311284 in my new Lyman manual, Scharf---even though it was in other editions as well. I don't think the 95's had the long throats the Krags reportedly have but the long 312299 boolit seems right at home there. I'd like...

According to the Lyman Manual the 311284 was designed for the 30-40 Krag and the 311299 does especially well in the 308 Winchester. Seems like the 311299 should work well in the 30-40 Krag for the same reason the 311284 works. For some reason the...

I love hunting (and eating!) wild hogs but I don't eat or even process every hog I shoot. I'll drag the nasty ones off to feed the coyotes. But I'm actually part of the problem, I should probably shoot every hog I see while hunting whether I need...
