why would i need to take up powder space with a grease cookie when i'm running bore wipers between each shot taken?

if the land bore is .450 and the groove bore is .458, AA5744 is one of the premier white devil powders for this cartridge. as to the bullet itself, depends on it's intended purpose and typical shooting distances, for which the bullet weight will...

i don't like or want to deal with grease cookies. for a light short distance (200yds) .45-70 load, i got around that by using a pair of .025" milk carton wads, and pair of 1/8" hard felt wads, and another pair of milk carton wads, all punched...

thanx randy. i'm just starting to work up a ppb load with this pedersoli .40-65 and its greaser chamber and had wishful thinking to get it magically transformed to a pb chamber. the current load is a BACO JM393425 slick @ 422 grains with 1:20...

wondering if that's doable, particularly for a .40-70 s/s PPB chamber. i know the current chamber dimensions will be the crux of the matter.

sharpsguy is on the money - that pedi .40-65 has changed my mind about converting it to .45-70 ... she's a Shooter.

the pedi '74 silhouette model is good one that's $1200 in .40-65 and $1650 in .45-70, from DGW. same exact gun, just different caliber/cartridge. i've been shooting the .40-65 with ppb's in its greaser chamber and it's far more accurate than i am....

yes, the pistol grip version. the "creedmoor" name has been slung about too often for various rifles, and too often it's just wrong.

for the .45-70 cartridge .... the c.sharps appears to be a low price with good value until you realize what's missing - double set triggers and pistol grip, just to name two items i'd consider important for a target rifle, not a hunting gun. ...

what will be the prime use of the rifle? that will define what accoutrements yer gonna need, and how much more money you'll need to complete the gun ready for shooting. for example, my last pedi sharps is the silhouette in .40-65 and i'll use it...

to say that one can purchase a shiloh sharps at the cost of a lyman 1877/1878 means nothing until the actual dollar numbers are presented. i suspect the op is talking about a used one, which will command far less that even a used shiloh.

there's no question that a robust cartridge in an s/a revolver will get the job done with one shot. if that one shot is good one. i guess more firepower could be added by fanning the hammer. nah, that's all silliness. a d/a just makes more...

NOT gonna happen in the USA at my matches or most folks registered matches. No matter what, the Ruger #1 to #3 are NOT a 19th century rifle designs. the ONLY 20th century rifle STYLE allowed at 99.9% of all events is the CPA Stevens 44-1/2.
