considering all the 19th century rifle actions, i've always found the rolling block to be best (at least for me). there is a reason why millions of them were built and in military service world wide as well as buffalo running, as compared to the...

the H&R buff classic was THE super cheap toe-in-the-door to bpcr/tr - sadly, a spot no longer filled.

anick57 - i think you already have a clear and firm grasp of what you want and what you'll do with it. the rest is up to your disposable cash and how long you wish to wait to get hooked up and get shooting. :)

i prefer wiping as well. blow tubing hopefully keeps the bp residue soft, whilst wiping removes it for the very most part and therefore is more consistent so that the shooting environment hot/cold/dry/wet climate becomes almost a non-issue. ...

my take is that the offshore pedersoli and investarms guns are good. the barrels are better than good, the locks are fair to good. and, imho, they all "suffer" from that patent breech that requires special considerations. some also have barrels...

i've had and well used both ignition systems with .32 bore rifles. caplocks are not for me and all my trad ml guns are flintlocks. there's nothing problematic with any trad ml caliber, from .25 to .79, but each gun is unique in one or more ways...

honestly, if you don't sort out yer load, gun, fouling and shooting processes before doing so at a match, yer not only wasting your time but the time of others. just get out and get some shooting done, even at a short range of 50 to 100 yards, so...

firstly, that ain't real black powder, it's just yet another version of smokeless. if yer gun is a trad ml, and not some zip gun, i'd always recommend using real black powder over that substitute cr@p. any black powder will do just fine, from goex...

the buff classic was the best intro to BPCR on a mini budget, too bad it's long gone as there's nothing out there at that price tag for someone looking to stick a toe into the game.

love my older crickett, she's a tack driver out to 50 yards. wish there was a way to add a feed ramp to it - hard to feed the chamber with adult sized fingers. i can attest to the purty walnut stocks, too!

i'm a convert from 1:20 to 1:16 alloy, and that does make patching the slick less critical and for better bullets. i use a jig to lay down a lead pencil mark at the optimum point for the patch wrap, then wrap the slick "in the air". overall,...
