Velocity is your friend with a 1:38 twist 44 mag launching heavier and or longer boolits. As mentioned, you need the proper boolit diameter for the groove diameter of your barrel. BB

Remington Buckhammers solved the problem of the slug slipping inside a plastic wad. The nose of the buckhammer slug was the same diameter as the plastic wad so both the slug and wad engaged the rifling. It's a shame buckhammers went out of...

I bought a marlin 1894 44-40 barrel from Numrich and installed it on a glenfield 30 frame. The groove measured 0.4295". With starline brass the largest diameter bullet that would chamber easily was 0.429". Rifle would shoot jacketed fine but not...

LB, With a rifled shotgun I think a fullbore solid base slug is the way to go. Better yet is use a slow enough powder to fill the hull and eliminate all the plastic between the powder and projectile; minimize components, minimizes variables. ...

Stewart, I cast fullbore solid base 12ga slugs that weigh 690 grains. Driving bands are 0.734 to 0.736. I shoot these slugs through a rifled barrel with a 0.727" groove diameter without any problems. The oversize slugs help center the round in...

I checked with Hornady a year or so back and they said they would make a 358 Hoosier die set for $170. Unless the handi is a stub barrel or rebore it is probably a 357 not a 358. A rechambered 357 mag handi would be the cheap way to go to 358...
