Thanks. Weather was not as bad as predicted for my part of GA. Some downed trees & power outages but I've seen worse. FL took the brunt of the storm. It will take time for them to recover.

I'm a first responder here in Midwest GA. Have to be in 2 hours early and with Irma slowing down, it's going to be a long few days. Bringing my chainsaw to work with me just in case. I'll check back in when its over.

A gun that age in that condition is very unlikely but would be pretty special if it is as described. Only problem is they're usually not what they seem to be.

They make J-words in 32 caliber? I had no idea! J/K, of course but this cartridge and rifle seem to make an excellent case for cast boolits. My mould is made by Accurate, for some reason NOE didn't have one at the time. One of the pleasures of...

Always thought it would be fun to have one of those. As soon as Texas Parks & Wildlife decides we have a hunt-able population of T-Rex I'll probably trade a thutty-thutty (or two) for one just like the OP traded for. Or maybe a Number One. Those are...

Great excuse to buy a 45 Colt! Lee has a copy of the H&G 68 200gr if you decide you want a lighter boolit, go ahead and get the 6 cavity mould if available. Big pile of boolits in a hurry! NOE has a nice copy too.

Thanks for posting this link. I'd like to have another option to PRB's and use the existing .44 & .45 cal bullets I already cast.

Good thread, my old back & shoulders are only good for an hour or two at the loading or casting bench. With the wide variety of boolits I cast the Magma not really a good option either. May be an ergonomic solution.

No big deal, really. Shooting weak hand is a good practice even if not out of necessity. I find it makes you a better shooter. It also impresses the heck out of folks who think they can't do it. Like KCSO I was a PPC shooter so it was something I...

Yes, actually hard to go wrong with the 45-70. OP's rifle will likely do well with boolits from 300-400+ grs and velocities from 1200-1900 with dozens of boolits and at least a dozen powders. I'm not a fan of the FTX bullet but if you want to...

I imagine anything hit in the chest with 330 grains of lead would do the same thing! FWIW, my 30-06 did the same thing to a doe last year but the range was 85 yards and the projectile was a 150 gr J-word at ~2700fps. DRT's are the best way to...

Very unlikely. The 71 receiver was manufactured to handle pressures of the 348, much higher than anything the 1886 was chambered for. Firing factory or full-strength hand load 348 ammo in this rifle would likely eventually damage the weaker 1886...
