When steel first came out lots of people reloaded it using standard shotcups. The shot would push thru the pedals and leave grooves starting at the forcing cone. On the ones I have seen it was worse at the chamber end.

I am not sure how many deer I have killed with a .243 but it is around 50 or 60. Mostly with 100 grain softs points. Never lost one with it and never had to track one over 75 yards. Snow with a crust on it is great for tracking. Fresh fluffy...

.... and the reason I found Kamik was because I went hunting in a town about a 150 miles away from home, stayed one night in a motel and left Sorels in the room when I checked out. As soon as I got home I called and told the lady there what I had...

When the 375 Winchester came out the reamer companies were selling 38-55 chamber reamers marked 375.. There's only .065" difference in case length. While the 375 may not be as accurate if shot in a 38-55 chamber because of the extra length I think...

Steel shot in wads not designed for steel will do that. When steel shot was first mandated I saw a couple of barrels like that.

I took two old H&R 30-30s in trade a while back. One of my customers was looking for a small caliber rifle for his two daughters so I made a new barrel for one in 32 S&W so he could use it to train the two girls and still have the 30-30 barrel for...

Deer in cold climates tend to have larger bodies than deer in warm areas. About 20 years ago a whitetail buck I shot won two large deer contests. One paid $300 and the other paid $200. They went by weight. That was in North Dakota. It went 248...
