That brings back memories. My first rifle was a Remington 581, bought in 1966 for a paltry $45, from Yellow Front in Phoenix. Yep, I was only 13 and it took my dad a couple of months to convince my mom I should be able to own a gun (she hated guns...

Thanks. We sometimes don't think about how things were done before automated records and production.

I am another who had a .45 ACP/Colt Blackhawk. I think I shot ACP out of it once. Then put that cylinder away as the .45 Colt was just as easy to reload and more versatile. I can see how 9mm/.45ACP would be good in a revolver for speedy reloads...

I tried it in my Lyman and it did not do well, but, that is probably due to my rifle and load. I shoot 450gn PP conicals that do not have any friction when seated. The mfg of BlackMZ suggests a good compressed charge. I can put a veggie wad down...

I guess it just depends on what you want. Out to 300 yd I like my little .223, but, a 6mm would handle wind a little better so I'd suggest staying with the 6mm for lower recoil. No need to go to 6.5 or 7 if you are not going to shoot the larger...

On my Herrett I did two things. I opened up the sizing die a bit and then did not ream the case as much. Bonus was the case in the neck and shoulder area was thicker and seemed to work well. I only had one case fail, after about 20 reloads at max.

Same here. Wilson's are good too but I standardized on Chip's due to cost. NEW GI mags work well. Used quite a few of them. But, I really didn't trust one until it had a few hundred rounds through it without hiccup. And, yes, I do drop all...

They all have their place. Yep, 10" is about as much as I would want for shooting off hand. But, most of my shooting was laying down and laying the barrel against my leg. The scoped, 14" barrel (.30 Herrett) was very accurate out to 300m. If it...

Pecard's on all my leather stuff. Found it from a guy who refurbishes old stiff leather stuff at the Smithsonian.

Interesting discussion. I do like the 6.5x55 and I also like the 7x57 and 7-08. But my two rifles now are .308 and .223. I like the .223 for shorter and mid range shooting when I don't want any recoil (Axis with a HB and wood stock). The .308 is...

Very pretty! I don't have much on the serial number thing. Could the frame be from an earlier model and it was rebarreled with a Trooper III barrel? Just a WAG as I have no idea how to tell frames apart.

As far as I know the only off the shelf molds for PP are for the S&W 500. They require a bit of sizing to work (see sticky above). Most molds advertised for .50cal are around .510 to .515 dia, far too large for the typical muzzleloader. The...

Well, first, is it something you would consider valuable or an 'antique'. If it is I would not touch it. Take it to a pro. Much of what is discussed here might ruin any value it has. If not, then the difficult part is fixing the cracks. How...
