This ^^^ As well as, COAL effecting amount of empty case space, compounded by boolit weight and size and style variations. Add to that, how much you are expanding the case...effecting case tension, as well as crimping or not crimping the case. ...

I have a 45acp Lee Pistol (carbide) FCD as well as several others that came with die sets. I've used them with jacketed bullets (and commercial cast bullets) back in the day, I don't really load any jacketed bullets in pistol ammo anymore. I quit...

I assume it's a "El Paso" ? (stamped as such?) I have a K10 El Paso on a Ruger #3, while it's a bit large for that small rifle, the scope tube is long enough to correct the position of the far forward mounts that plague the #3 (yeah, I suppose I...

JonB_in_Glencoe replied to a thread .500 Gas Checks in Gas Checks
I've had 50 cal pistol checks by both Hornady and Gator. I'd guess they are the same specs. I only have one mold with GC shank. It's the Lee 440 RF. the shank on my boolit mold is undersized, both checks slide on too easily, and kind of crimp...

please disregard my comment, I didn't notice you were talking about a rifle cartridge, I've never used H110 in rifle cartridges.

I would choose a powder with a slower burn rate for that heavy boolit...depending on what velocity you hope to achieve.

for 45-70? I got no idea? I bought it for a Ruger Old Army...poor performer...but I found it worked better putting it in the cylinder upside-down (flat side out)...but even then, it performed worse than round ball. I've never owned a 45-70,...

DO NOT reduce H110 or Win 296 by 60% again, I will state, there are too many "exceptions" to have a valid rule of thumb.

GRUMPA, there is actually more than two, LOL. besides the variations of old Lyman molds, and now the New Lyman production. I believe that NOE has two different weights. and then there is the old Lee Group Buy molds, which is what I had (I sold...

You have a good start to testing that load. Did you shoot more than those two groups? If so, did you average the group size of all the groups? Myself, I like to shoot groups with more shoots per group. I like to use 5 shots for 'rough'...

you need to be careful when extrapolating Data. There are too many "exceptions" to have a valid rule of thumb, and can quickly get into trouble. If you are unsure enough, that you feel the need to ask a vague question(as you did), I'd think it's...

The Die doesn't "seat" on the top of the die hole. The bevel on the bottom of the die "seats" against the bottom of the Die hole. I bet there is some crud on the inside beveled area, where the Die is suppose to mate to.

to specifically answer this question, there is no case length requirement...but... the crimp will always be the same distance from the case head, so if have a wide variation of case lengths and you get one that is way too short, you'll end up with...
