Posted for interest. I'll finally pull my name off that gawdawful 2 year gb. Al told me that there was a meplat limit of .200 or so minimum for hp molds iirc. Modifying a noe 311-247 mold seems to be the ticket.

For my Gas Check designed boolits I still use checks but I don't coate the shanks. I ESPC using a tray with fender washers and non-stick aluminum foil. Works like a dream and doesn't allow the rifle boolits to fall over. I make my own checks from...

I can verify this, I keep some for camping trips in my tinderbox. Not an incredibly hot flame but plenty to get smaller kindling going. Also: flint and steel is all you need to get it going. Steel wool fluffed on the outside (0000) gives you lots a...

So... you are saying I should sell the Big Bag in Classifieds? ;) Not so handy when the last "contractors" to update the place used Flex rather than solid/smooth for the majority of the run. (Note to anyone running a longish dryer vent duct......

I was down in the crawlspace of the new rental here, squirreling away the back-stock of ammo & freeze dried food buckets, and my Firefighter Spidey Sense started tingling. So I went and disassembled the dryer vent tube. From roughly 12 feet of...

I somehow think an HP mold design in an AR would end up with smashed noses during feeding but would be fine in a bolt or single shot. I'm using the Lyman 225-415 in my AR and Mini 14 rifles and I got slight nose deformation during cycling. That got...

Before SAECO (Santa Anita Engineering Company) moved to Carpenteria, CA, they were made in (wait for it) Santa Anita, CA. That mold appears to be pre-Carpenteria. When Dad got us into casting, all we had was SAECO because they were 25 miles down the...

I don't have a Glock 30, but have several (22 and 23) and they feed the 401-145 SWC just fine. I also run a 358-105 SWC in a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and it feeds fine. I would think the 452-200 RF would feed fine and I'm tempted to pick...

Although I haven't shot that boolit much (my brother doesn't like it, he prefers the 401-175) it shoots great over 5 grains of unique. I also shoot the 175 over 5 grains. I have some loaded up that I could run across the chronograph but it is more...

I didn't have black, but did have some Crossman neon lime green .12 gram and they work fine for me. I didn't try ASBBDT until I got some powder from Prismatic Powders and their stuff works well. Before that, all I'd tried was Harbor Freight flat...

I started out with 35 and 45 plain based love them! I ordered the 30 cal and the 22 cal standard shortly thereafter. The 30 was in production so I got that right away. The 22 was not in production so it took a while BUT I KNEW IT WOULD TAKE A WHILE....

fcvan replied to a thread annealing in Gas Checks
The aluminum heats up so fast when immersed in lead that annealing is done in a flash. I'm going to do some more this morning because I need to make some 22 checks. The other day I made 30 checks. Gotta feed the ARs in 5.56 and .300 blk. I've got to...

I cut down the brass using a Harbor Freight mini chop saw. Then I form, and then I trim/chamfer. It is working rather well for me.

fcvan replied to a thread annealing in Gas Checks
I recently tried annealing before stamping. I cut enough strips for 1000 checks (PatMarlins CheckMaker die) and dipped them into my lead pot (5 at a time) for about 5 seconds. Annealed. The softer material made great checks that hold tight. I...

I've tumbled using a cool whip tub, two layers of air soft BBs, 50 boolits, and 3cc of powder (Lee scooper) and then dump onto a cookie sheet. From there I transfer to a tray using hemp stats. The Prismatic Powder I'm using stick well and doesn't...
