Many years back when all I had was a .308W with a 10" twist I killed a lot of rock chucks (groundhogs western cousin) with a Lyman 311041 HP cast of COWWs + 50% lead (with todays COWWs add 2% tin then mix with the lead) loaded over 26.5 gr H4895 in...

You gain another 200 - 300 fps up to 2500+ fps capability. This is because you are controlling the RPM which is very important when shooting cast at HV. Especially if the bullet has a long bore riding nose with minimal bearing surface. Getting up...

I think you'll find most H4895 to be a tudge faster burning than IMR4895 which is why it is listed as faster burning on most burn rate charts. H4895 is made in Australia and IMR4895 is still made in Canada. Larry Gibson

The 12" twist with those long bore riding nosed cast bullets will limit accuracy to 2200 fps, maybe 2300 fps. If you get the rebore I'd suggest you have JES give it a 14" twist with a .348 bore giving .005 deep grooves for a .358 groove diameter. ...

I don't know the "correct" port pressure for the M1 Garand but having measured the time/pressure curve of numerous lots of M2 Ball, one lot of M1 Ball and a couple lots of M72 Match the pressure at 22" runs from 9,500 to 14,500 psi(43). That is...

IMR4895 will work best in the 30-06 with heavy medium to heavy cast bullets (175 - 220 gr). Start at 26 or 27 gr and work up to 34 gr or accuracy goes south (usually above 1950 fps +/-). It will work even better with a Dacron filler. Larry...

You're not getting the alloy into the cavities quick enough. Many do not realize how quickly alloy solidifies once it's out of the pot and into cavities. I suggest running the alloy at 715 - 725 degrees. Adjust the spout control to allow a faster...

Given the NOE 314299 or the Lyman 314299 cast of a good alloy with GCs and a good lube getting 2100 fps out of a longer barreled MN without leading will be easy. Getting 2100 fps with the best accuracy will be hard. It can be done though with...

Depending on powder and cast bullet used 320 fps, while seemingly a large amount, could simply be the difference between the 20" and 26" barrels. Also the load 's time/pressure curve will have a greater influence in the longer barrel. There is/was...

The larger the diameter of the bullet the more mass it has from the center of it's axis of rotation. Thus it has greater rotational velocity at a given rate of spin (RPM) than does a smaller diameter bullet at the same rate of spin (RPM). Only a...

Yes the 16" twist in a .30 caliber does work extremely well stabilizing bullets under 1". That is what my 30x60 XCB rifle has; a 31" long Palma contour Broughton 3 groove barrel with a 16" twist. However, you the OP stated you have a 10 and 14"...

Yes, the Lyman M-die/expander that came with the die set will work with .358 bullets. It will flare the case mouth (just as the Lee does) and expand the inside for .355 - .356 bullets. Thus you're putting a bullet in that is .002 over what is...
